Product Data Scientist

We’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist to help us develop scalable data-driven solutions that enhance player understanding, foster safe and secure online communities, and optimize the overall player experience. This role is critical for innovating and expanding upon our existing game analytics tooling, and will work with data professionals, application engineers, and stakeholders throughout the studio to create new functionality that serves the needs of gamers AND game developers everywhere.\n\nOn any given day at thatgamecompany, you might:\n\n* Comb through large sets of game telemetry data to uncover player relationships, feature usage trends, security threats, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve the player or developer experience.\n* Design and test innovative solutions to improve new player retention through data-driven insights and automation\n* Develop novel solutions to identify, surface, and mitigate non-human bot activity\n* Translate data-driven solutions into product features to automate and share our innovations\n* Give a presentation to help talk through some unintuitive discoveries from one of your data models\n\nWe expect you to:\n\n* Have deep passion for video games; be a gamer and think on behalf of our players\n* Be curious, a problem solver and a self starter who is comfortable taking risks. Know how and when to apply your knowledge, and be willing to share with the rest of us\n* Be comfortable with ambiguity and able to navigate it to iteratively refine the problem space\n* Spearhead projects touching multiple workgroups, regularly liaising with and coordinating development efforts\n* Proactively drive product and feature innovation, leveraging your wisdom and expertise to identify and prioritize initiatives\n\n### Required Skills\n\n* 3+ Years of Experience applying Data Science methodologies to product development\n* Strong understanding of machine learning and statistical methods, including classical ML, deep learning, NLP, and anomaly detection.\n* Expertise in statistical concepts such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, regression, classification, and clustering\n* Proficiency in writing clean, efficient code in Python, Java, or Typescript\n* Experience writing optimized SQL to build and analyze datasets\n* Familiarity with modern Cloud Platforms (preferably GCP)\n* Exposure to big data processing tools like BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Spark, and Beam\n* Strong communication skills, desire to understand the data you’re using, and the ability to explain what you built and why you built it\n* Willingness to continuously learn, adapt, and step outside of your comfort zone.\n\n### Preferred Experience\n\nAny of the following would be highly preferred, but most of all, we value team players who are eager to learn and contribute:\n\n* Kubernetes and Open Source tooling\n* Graph Databases or Matchmaking\n* Analysis of 3D event data\n* Experience developing Data-Driven SaaS Products\n* Experience in the video gaming industry\n* Experience in a small company with a startup feel\n* Interest in technical writing and sharing your work\n\nAt thatgamecompany, we believe in fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
