Job Summary

MatrixSpace is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Engineer to lead FCC compliance testing and certification for RF/electronic products, including intentional and unintentional radiators under FCC Parts 15, 87, and 90. The role involves planning and executing transmitter compliance tests, coordinating with external labs, and managing MIL-STD environmental testing. The engineer will be responsible for debugging test failures, driving corrective actions, and producing comprehensive compliance documentation. This position requires strong hands-on lab experience, debugging skills, and a deep understanding of RF design and EMI mitigation. It's an on-site role in Hoffman Estates, IL, with some travel.

Must Have

  • Lead FCC compliance testing and certification (Part 15, 87, 90)
  • Plan and execute transmitter compliance testing
  • Own Part 15 unintentional radiator testing
  • Coordinate with external test labs and TCBs
  • Support and manage MIL-STD environmental testing
  • Lead debug and root cause analysis for test failures

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Systems Engineering
  • 3+ years in regulatory compliance or qualification testing for RF/electronic products
  • Experience with FCC intentional radiator certification
  • Hands-on lab experience and strong debugging skills
  • Proficiency with RF/EMC instrumentation
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing (MIL-STD-810)
  • Experience working with certification labs and regulatory bodies
  • Strong understanding of RF design and EMI mitigation
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead FCC compliance testing and certification for intentional radiators under:
  • FCC Part 15
  • FCC Part 87 (Aviation)
  • FCC Part 90 (Private Land Mobile Radio)
  • Plan and execute transmitter compliance testing including: output power, bandwidth, frequency stability, spurious and harmonic emissions
  • Own Part 15 unintentional radiator testing (radiated and conducted emissions).
  • Coordinate compliance activities with external test labs and Telecom Certification Bodies (TCBs).
  • Support and manage MIL-STD environmental testing (e.g., MIL-STD-810):
  • Shock, vibration, temperature cycling, humidity, altitude (as applicable)
  • Lead debug and root cause analysis for test failures and performance margin issues.
  • Drive corrective actions: shielding, grounding, filtering, layout improvements, enclosure/cable mitigation, firmware changes, calibration tuning.
  • Produce compliance documentation: test plans, results summaries, FCC exhibits, reports, and certification deliverables.
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure compliance is built into product design early and efficiently.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Systems Engineering, or similar.
  • 3+ years experience in regulatory compliance or qualification testing for RF/electronic products.
  • Experience with FCC intentional radiator certification (Part 15 and/or Part 87 and/or Part 90).
  • Hands-on lab experience and strong debugging skills.
  • RF/EMC instrumentation: spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, signal generators, antennas, LISNs, near-field probes, network analyzers
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing such as MIL-STD-810 (or equivalent).
  • Experience working directly with certification labs and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong understanding of RF design and EMI mitigation best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of EMI troubleshooting, grounding/shielding, filtering, and system-level mitigation
  • Test planning, documentation, and compliance report generation
  • This position requires on-site presence at MatrixSpace Hoffman Estates facility with up to 10% travel as needed for compliance and environmental test labs.
  • This position requires working directly or indirectly with the US Government in restricted environments. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (Green Card holder).
