Job Summary
Valeo, a global tech company and leader in driving assistance, is seeking a Safety & AI Engineer Intern at its Créteil Mobility Tech Center. The intern will join the Valeo Brain Division's R&D team, focusing on defining methodologies to enhance the safety of AI-based components for autonomous driving systems like Navigation On Autopilot (NOA) in urban environments. This role involves identifying dangerous scenarios, establishing safety requirements, and applying the ISO/PAS 8800 standard.
Must Have
- Define the operational design domain (ODD) for the NOA system in urban driving.
- Identify and evaluate dangerous NOA scenarios related to traffic light and sign perception, focusing on critical consequences.
- Establish functional and performance safety requirements for AI-based subsystems.
- Apply the new automotive standard ISO/PAS 8800 to traffic light and sign detection algorithms.
- Draft technical documentation for AI/Safety teams to implement the new standard.
- Bac +5 Engineering degree with specialization in operational safety.
- Knowledge of risk analysis techniques and autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Mandatory English language skills.
Good to Have
- Knowledge of SOTIF (ISO 21448) and ISO 26262 standards.
- Knowledge of Python and Machine Learning algorithm learning techniques.

The Mobility Tech Center is the headquarters of the Valeo Brain Division. This Research & Development center brings together 1180 employees around the design of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), connectivity solutions, human-machine interfaces, and cabin monitoring systems.
The Driving Assistance Research Center is composed of a multidisciplinary team of over 70 people with a strong culture in upstream technologies related to future building blocks for driving automation (ADAS and Automated Driving AD). This team is responsible for the definition and feasibility studies of innovative driving assistance systems such as our new Navigation On Autopilot (NOA) which will be able to take its users from their home to their final destination in a fluid manner.
In this context, your role within the System/Safety/Validation team will primarily consist of defining methodologies aimed at strengthening the safety of artificial intelligence-based components, essential for this type of critical system.
Assigned missions, in collaboration with the Safety expert and the AI team:
- Define the operational design domain (ODD) of the NOA system for urban driving.
- Identify and evaluate dangerous NOA scenarios related to the perception of traffic lights and road signs, with an emphasis on critical consequences.
- Establish functional and performance safety requirements for AI-based subsystems.
- Apply the new automotive standard ISO/PAS 8800 to traffic light and road sign detection algorithms.
- Draft the necessary technical documentation to support the AI/Safety teams in the implementation of this new standard.
About you:
- Initial education level: Bac +5
- Degree prepared: Engineering school with specialization in operational safety
- Aptitude for research and innovation
- Knowledge of risk analysis techniques
- Knowledge of autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Curiosity, autonomy, analytical mind and pragmatism.
- Ability to adapt and innovate in the face of complex problems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Languages: English mandatory
