Job Summary

American Express is seeking a Senior Credit Risk Analyst for its Third Line of Defense, Credit Risk Review function. This role focuses on independent oversight and assurance of Consumer and Commercial credit risk portfolios. The analyst will design and automate data processes, perform data extraction, transformation, and analysis using tools like SQL, Python, Alteryx, and Power Automate. Key responsibilities include developing insightful dashboards in Tableau/Power BI, ensuring data integrity, and contributing to innovation in credit risk analytics and emerging technologies.

Must Have

  • Design and develop automated workflows and data processes
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, analysis, and automation using SQL, Python, Alteryx, Power Automate, UiPath
  • Develop insightful dashboards and reports in Tableau, Power BI
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Maintain clear documentation of data sources, logic, and automation processes
  • 3-5 years’ experience in analytics, automation, or data process improvement
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and automation tools such as Python, SQL, UiPath, or Power Automate
  • Working knowledge of dashboarding tools (Tableau, Power BI) and Excel
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering to optimize Gen AI tools for research, automation, and insight generation
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control habits
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teams

How will you make an impact in this role?

American Express’ Third Line of Defense (3LOD) has established a new Credit Risk Review function responsible for providing independent oversight and assurance to key Consumer and Commercial credit risk portfolios. The team aims to strengthen our risk management framework and ensure that we continue to uphold the highest standards of credit risk management across the enterprise.

This function is supported by a strong Data Analytics and Automation team to enable data-driven and technology-led assurance. We are looking for a detail-oriented analyst eager to develop and automate workflows that support the review process, using data and technology to deliver efficient, well-documented, and actionable insights for the review teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automated workflows and data processes to support portfolio and thematic reviews.
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, analysis, and automation using suitable tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, Python, Alteryx, Power Automate, UiPath, etc.) with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Develop insightful dashboards and reports in Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and integrity of outputs.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data sources, logic, and automation processes.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement and efficiency enhancement.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing and upskilling sessions across the team.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by exploring and experimenting with new tools, techniques, and automation approaches.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience in analytics, automation, or data process improvement (financial services experience a plus).
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and automation tools such as Python, SQL, UiPath, or Power Automate.
  • Working knowledge of dashboarding tools (Tableau, Power BI) and Excel for quick-turnaround analysis.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering to optimize Gen AI tools for research, automation, and insight generation.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control habits.
