Role Summary
The Senior Data Engineer I will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data pipelines, reporting solutions, and cloud-based data architectures. This role demands expertise in SSRS, SSIS, Snowflake, and a comprehensive data engineering tool stack to support advanced analytics, business intelligence, and operational data needs.
Key responsibilities:
1. Data Pipeline Design & Implementation
- Architect and develop scalable, efficient, and automated data pipelines using SSIS, Snowflake, and other ETL tools.
- Ensure seamless data ingestion, transformation, and loading from various sources (structured and unstructured data).
- Optimize workflows for speed, reliability, and scalability in handling large datasets.
2. Data Warehousing & Modeling
- Design and manage data warehouse solutions in Snowflake, ensuring high performance and cost-efficiency.
- Develop data models that support analytics and reporting needs, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
- Implement best practices for data storage, indexing, and partitioning to improve query performance.
3. Reporting & Analytics Enablement
- Utilize SSRS to build and maintain customized, automated reports and dashboards for business users.
- Work closely with BI and analytics teams to support data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure data accessibility and visualization by integrating with tools like Power BI or Tableau.
4. Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Continuously monitor and enhance database performance by fine-tuning queries, indexes, and partitions.
- Optimize ETL processes, ensuring minimal latency and efficient execution of workflows.
- Troubleshoot data inconsistencies, errors, and bottlenecks to maintain system reliability.
5. Data Governance, Security & Compliance
- Implement robust security protocols to safeguard sensitive data.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.), maintaining audit trails and access controls.
- Establish data validation mechanisms to enhance accuracy and reliability across platforms.
6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with cross-functional teams—business analysts, product teams, and developers—to gather data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior data engineers, sharing best practices and innovative approaches.
- Document processes, workflows, and architectures for knowledge sharing and scalability.
7. Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment of data workflows.
- Leverage SQL scripting, or other automation tools to streamline data operations.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies to introduce new efficiencies and innovations.
Years of Experience
- 11 + years of Software Development experience required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related engineering field required. Advanced degree preferred.
Special Requirements
- Good to have prior experience of working in Finance domain (Investment bank, Asset Management firm, Hedge Fund).
- Good to have exposure to large scale distributed applications.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in SSRS, SSIS, and Snowflake.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, or other scripting languages.
- Expertise in data pipeline design, ETL tools, and cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance practices.
- Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
