Job Summary
Buckman is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to lead the development of its Data Science program. The role involves deriving deep industry knowledge across paper, water, leather, and performance chemical industries, and helping develop a data strategy for the company. This includes data collection, project portfolio creation, partnering with external providers, and augmenting internal capabilities. A key aspect of the job is communicating and building relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts to demonstrate how data science can solve problems in novel ways. The role requires individual expertise and the ability to partner with external companies, as there might not be a large internal team initially. The Data Scientist will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on the development and deployment of IoT solutions, working for an entrepreneurial company with a sustainability mission and digital ambitions.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, Math, Physics, Engineering, or CS)
- 7+ years of experience in an analytical role
- Expertise in data extraction, analysis, and visualization
- Proven success with a portfolio of tackled problems
Good to Have
- Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field
- Experience in specialty chemicals or similar industry
- Background in engineering (especially Chemical Engineering)
- Experience starting up a data science program
- Experience working with global stakeholders
- Experience in a startup environment, preferably IoT
- Knowledge in quantitative modeling tools and statistical analysis

Job Description

- • A demonstrated record of success with a verifiable portfolio of problems tackled

- • Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary and passionate team members.
- • Ability to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders
- • Strong planning and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects
