Job Summary
As a Senior Engineering Manager, Product APIs at PENN Entertainment, you will lead a talented software development team within the Product Engineering department. Your primary responsibility will be to own and maintain scalable Product APIs that are foundational to powering user-facing experiences across Hollywood Casino, theScore Bet Sportsbook, and theScore media app. You will provide mentorship, guidance, and performance management to your team, collaborate on technical roadmaps, ensure documentation, and contribute to hiring initiatives, all while focusing on high reliability and performance.
Must Have
- Manage day-to-day activities of one or more software development teams.
- Provide goal setting, mentorship, coaching, leadership, guidance, and performance management.
- Collaborate closely with Product Engineering teams to develop technical roadmaps and flesh out requirements.
- Ensure development deliverables are documented and key decisions recorded.
- Help with hiring initiatives across the engineering department.
- Assist in identifying process problems and contribute to continual enhancement of design, development processes and system architecture.
- Ensure development follows the development process throughout the development lifecycle.
- Establish success metrics (KPIs and SLAs) and monitor team and system performance.
- Collaborate with the team to meet performance, scalability, and reliability goals.
- Stay current with trends, techniques, technology and other factors impacting the job.
- Minimum 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
- At least 8 years of experience in software development.
- Experience leading teams of 10 engineers or more.
- Demonstrated time management, project management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to various stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrated collaborative work style.
- Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects while adhering to strict deadlines.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning.
- Passionate about clean code architecture, user experience, and software craftsmanship.
- A drive for finding simple solutions to complex problems.

About the Role & Team
As part of the Product Engineering team, you will be working with a group of talented and friendly individuals. Our goal is to provide our users with the best experience across our native and web applications. In this role, you will own the Product APIs, which are foundational to powering our user facing experiences. This includes designing and maintaining scalable APIs that support product configuration, content delivery, and user personalization. You’ll collaborate closely with client developers and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration, high reliability, and performance.
About the Work:

- Collaborate closely with the Product Engineering teams to develop a technical roadmap, flesh out requirements, and ensure the team executes.
- Ensure development deliverables are documented and key decisions are recorded in accordance with the design and development process.
- Help with hiring initiatives across the engineering department.
- Assist in identifying process problems and contribute to the continual enhancement of the design, development processes and system architecture.
- Ensure development follows the development process throughout the development lifecycle.
- Establish success metrics (KPIs and SLAs) and monitor team and system performance.
