Job Summary

Elsewhere Entertainment is seeking a Senior Expert Research Engineer to develop a new IP. This role involves joining a new ML research department, focusing on applying state-of-the-art ML models to game development, particularly in animation systems like lip-sync and text-to-speech. The engineer will collaborate with experts to advance quality and real-time inference performance, identify data needs, and establish best practices for research and productization, contributing to innovative and high-quality content.

Must Have

  • Developing and training models to solve concrete game-related problems, initially focused on animation, lip-sync, text-to-speech.
  • Working closely with domain experts to advance state of art quality and real-time inference performance.
  • Helping to identify training data needs and devise data acquisition strategies.
  • Creating best practices for research and productization, developing robust and efficient training pipelines.

Job Description

Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Research Engineer to join the development of a new IP. Feed your creativity while collaborating with our team of highly skilled developers to build something innovative, exhilarating, and expansively entertaining! As a founding member of our new ML research department, you’ll be focusing on bringing your knowledge of state-of-the-art ML models to solving problems and improving systems in game development; enriching our player experience and augmenting our team’s abilities to create high-quality content. Your initial focus will be on animation systems, including lip-sync, text-to-speech, and related techniques, but we aim to push the boundaries of on-device, real-time performance, uses of machine learning in other areas as well, giving you the opportunity to have an outsized impact on a wider area of video game systems. As a member of the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better—with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.

You’ll help us by…

  • Developing and training models to solve concrete game-related problems initially focused on animation, lip-sync, text-to-speech, and more.
  • Working closely with domain experts from Elsewhere and Microsoft, to advance state of art quality and real-time inference performance.
  • Helping to identify training data needs and devise data acquisition strategies together with domain experts and asset creators.
  • Creating best practices for research and productization, developing robust and efficient training pipelines for production cases.

You’re awesome because you have…

  • 3+ years of experience developing ML models for real-time inference scenarios.
  • A PhD, or applied research background in industry, around machine learning or relevant areas of technology.
  • Very strong math skills with a solid understanding of linear algebra, statistics, probability, and other ML-related math specializations.
  • Excellent Python development skills, with very good knowledge of modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Good understanding of ML inference considerations like on-device deployment, etc.
  • Strong ability to distill complex technical concepts into important details in discussions with inter-disciplinary teams.

Bonus points for…

  • Knowledge of animation systems (IK, etc.), computer graphics, real-time physics, etc.
  • Working knowledge of C++ programming.
