Job Summary
As a Technical Animation Director at Ubi MTL, you will be at the heart of the technological and artistic innovation of an unannounced AAA project. You will guide teams in creating fluid, expressive, and high-performance animation systems, while ensuring consistency between creative vision and technical feasibility. Your role will combine leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for animation. You will be a key facilitator between animation, rig, programming, and tools teams, ensuring that pipelines are robust, scalable, and adapted to the project's ambitions.
Must Have
- Design, implement, and maintain a high-performance, scalable animation pipeline.
- Collaborate with tools teams to develop or improve MotionBuilder scripts (Python).
- Work with animators and programmers to design and improve in-game animation systems.
- Support the implementation of procedural animation and full-body IK systems.
- Ensure compatibility of animation systems with character customization needs.
- Collaborate with riggers to balance artistic quality and technical performance.
- Document processes and support technical animators and teams.
- Diploma in 3D animation, computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
- 7 years of experience in animation in the game industry, including 3 years in leadership.
- Strong command of game engines (Unity, Unreal) and 3D software (MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, Maya).
- Good understanding of scripting languages (Python, C#, JavaScript, MaxScript), motion capture, and state machines.
- Experience with bug tracking software (Jira) and version control systems (Perforce).

What you will do
- Design, implement, and maintain a high-performance, scalable animation pipeline adapted to project needs.
- Collaborate with tools teams to develop or improve scripts in MotionBuilder (Python).
- Work hand-in-hand with animators and programmers to design and improve animation systems in the game engine.
- Support the implementation of procedural animation and full-body IK systems with animation programmers.
- Ensure the compatibility of animation systems with character customization needs.
- Collaborate with animatable system creators (riggers) to balance artistic quality and technical performance.
- Document processes and support technical animators and teams in their daily tasks.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Education: Diploma in 3D animation, computer science, computer engineering, or any other related field.
- Experience: 7 years of experience in animation in the game industry, in the development of animatable systems or in programming, including 3 years in leadership.
- Technical expertise: Strong command of game engines (Unity, Unreal) and 3D software (MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, and Maya). Good understanding of scripting languages (Python, C#, JavaScript, and MaxScript), motion capture, and state machines.
- Tools and methodologies: Experience with bug tracking software (Jira) and version control systems (Perforce).
