Job Description

As a Senior Game Designer at Blazing Griffin, you will play a pivotal role in driving the creative direction of our games, from concept through to release. You'll be responsible for shaping core gameplay experiences, ensuring systems are scalable and progressive, and collaborating closely with narrative design, art, and code departments. We're looking for someone who is experienced in planning, managing, and prototyping games. Someone who has been instrumental in shepherding a game through its lifecycle. Your primary focus will be on crafting engaging systems that support the overall gameplay experience with an emphasis on puzzle/adventure game design.
Must have:
  • Estimate, prioritize, and delegate tasks while training and supporting others.
  • Take ownership of delegated areas or entire projects, including planning and breaking down work.
  • Understand dependencies across teams and disciplines, and how they relate to broader project milestones.
  • Review designs and tasks related to assigned projects to ensure the highest quality product.
  • Attend and lead client meetings, representing the company professionally.
  • Contribute to the design and refinement of key game areas and mechanics.
  • Collaborate with other designers to create scalable systems and features.
  • Lead iterative design processes, including prototyping, concepting, and testing.
  • Define and document game systems, feature sets, and scope with scalability in mind.
  • Mentor Junior and Mid-Level designers to foster team growth.
  • Develop, test, balance, and pace level-based content to enhance player experience.
Good to have:
  • Experience working in puzzle or adventure game design.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Console/PC development experience.
  • Level design or game scripting experience.
  • Understanding of C++ or C# programming languages.
  • Experience managing others or leading a creative team.
  • Ability to write narrative fiction or journalistic content.
  • Experience with modding or game customisations.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in game design, with at least 2-3 shipped titles.
  • Proven ability to design scalable and progressive gameplay systems, especially in puzzle/adventure genres.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of the gaming landscape and modern gaming trends.
  • Familiarity with the Unity game engine; experience with other engines (Unreal, CryEngine) is a plus.
  • A collaborative attitude with the ability to work effectively as part of a creative team.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • High level of attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A deep passion for gaming and an understanding of different genres and game types.
  • An interest in playing and analysing games, particularly puzzle and adventure games.

Advantageous Experience
