Tools Programmer
Location: Glasgow in studio/Hybrid
Role Type: 1 Year Contract
We are looking for an experienced Programmer to join our Glasgow-based studio to design and develop in-house tools and technology that support the creation of our games. Working closely with designers, artists, and the wider code team, you will play a pivotal role in streamlining workflows, improving productivity, and ensuring the technical needs of the studio are met efficiently. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain in-house tools and pipelines to improve workflows for designers, artists, and other developers.
- Collaborate with the wider code team to integrate tools into the game engine and ensure compatibility across different platforms.
- Work independently and within a small team to identify studio needs and propose technical solutions.
- Partner with artists and designers to understand their requirements and create user-friendly tools that help bring creative visions to life.
- Optimize tools for performance and reliability to minimize bottlenecks in development pipelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing tools, workflows, and pipelines.
- Maintain detailed documentation for tools, workflows, and systems to ensure their longevity and usability by the team.
- Contribute to brainstorming and technical planning sessions to improve the studio’s technology infrastructure.
- Stay updated on industry trends and tools development practices to ensure the studio remains competitive.
Required
- 3+ years of professional or equivalent experience in tools development or game programming.
- A degree in coding/programming or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in C# with C++ as a bonus (experience with Unity Engine tool development is a plus).
- Solid understanding of scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation and pipeline creation.
- Experience designing intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for tools and workflows.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize tools and systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for creating efficient solutions and a desire to empower others through technology.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively across a multi-disciplinary team.
Desired
- Experience with multi-platform game development pipelines.
- Knowledge of asset pipeline development and integration (e.g., working with 3D models, animations, textures).
- Familiarity with build systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with procedural content generation tools or systems.
- Knowledge of database integration and data visualization for analytics tools.
