Senior Game Designer (R26886)

Epic Games is seeking a Senior Game Designer to lead the development of new islands, experiences, and models, collaborating with internal and external partners. This role involves working with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and implement engaging content, tools, and experiences for islands within Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite, aiming to delight players and inspire creators. The position contributes to shaping the future of interactive entertainment by challenging design norms.

Must Have

• Design and drive the design vision, documentation, and implementation for island-related experiences.
• Work closely with internal and external teams to advance tool and content development.
• Liaise with external partners to determine creative direction and ensure involvement in design decisions.
• Actively participate in overall decisions and work with designers for motivating results.
• Drive collaborative and iterative prototyping, both on paper and in-game.
• Participate in playtesting, provide feedback, and find practical solutions to problems.
• 5+ years of experience publishing multiple game titles as a designer.
• Passion and experience in online game design and deep knowledge of all game genres.
• Demonstrated ability to identify with players and understand their motivations and play styles.
• Understanding and enthusiasm for global popular culture.
• Understanding of the entire game development process from idea to final product delivery.
• Extensive knowledge of many areas related to game design.
• Problem-solving ability, quick response to evolving project needs, and decision-making.
• Exceptional communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility for team results.
• Ability to perform technical prototyping in a game engine (Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite).
• Knowledge and interest in Fortnite and the evolving creator space within Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and implement experiences, tools, and content for islands that will delight players and inspire creators working in Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

What you will be responsible for

• Design and drive the design vision, documentation, and implementation for numerous island-related experiences in collaboration with gameplay designers, product managers, and design leadership.
• Work closely with internal and external teams to advance tool and content development, acting as a visionary for all development and publishing activities.
• Liaise with external partners to determine the creative direction of their presence in the ecosystem, ensuring they are informed and involved in design decisions.
• Actively participate in overall decisions and work with other designers to target relevant elements for motivating results.
• Drive collaborative and iterative prototyping, both on paper and in-game.
• Participate in playtesting, provide appropriate feedback, and find practical solutions to problems.

What we are looking for

• More than 5 years of experience publishing multiple game titles as a designer.
• Passion and experience in online game design and deep knowledge of all game genres.
• Demonstrated ability to identify with players and deep knowledge of their motivations, play styles, and the impact of objective choice on their game.
• Understanding and enthusiasm for global popular culture and ability to identify with fans from all backgrounds.
• Understanding of the entire game development process from initial idea, pre-production, and production to final product delivery.
• Extensive knowledge of many areas related to game design and ability to confidently address various complex design topics.
• Problem-solving ability, quick response to evolving project needs, and decision-making.
• Exceptional communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility for the results of an interdisciplinary team.
• Ability to perform technical prototyping in a game engine, preferably Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite. Level design skills, an asset.
• Knowledge and interest in Fortnite and the evolving creator space and user-generated content within Unreal Editor for Fortnite.
