Role Overview
As the Senior HR Business Partner, you will provide expertise to shape, lead and deliver a broad range of people initiatives with a focus on employee and industrial relations initiatives — from developing frameworks and policies to managing workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and union engagement. This role partners closely with leaders and employees to align people strategies with organisational goals, foster a positive workplace culture, and ensure compliance with employment legislation while supporting a safe, fair, and productive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with leaders across the business to design and implement people strategies that align with organisational goals and workforce needs.
- Provide expert guidance on employee and industrial relations, including conflict resolution, organisational design, workforce planning, and talent management.
- Develop and implement the organisation’s ER and IR frameworks, policies, and procedures to strengthen compliance and consistency.
- Build and manage constructive relationships with labour unions and employee representatives, proactively engaging to resolve issues and minimise risk.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners to conduct thorough workplace investigations and recommend appropriate outcomes.
- Coach and support managers and employees, building capability and fostering a fair and inclusive workplace culture.
- Monitor changes to employment legislation and industrial instruments, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the organisation in labour disputes, negotiations, and hearings, protecting business continuity and mitigating risk.
- Contribute to wider HR initiatives and projects, including Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs and activities that enhance the end-to-end employee experience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Employee Relations (ER) and Industrial Relations (IR), with the ability to manage complex cases.
- Proven ability to operate in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, with a “roll up your sleeves” approach.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively across business units.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and diplomacy skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience managing union relationships, working within unionised environments, with industry-specific experience highly regarded.
- Solid understanding of employment legislation, labor laws, and compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Ability to coach and support managers and employees at all levels.
- Advantageous: Industry experience in sectors with active union presence (e.g., energy, infrastructure, construction, or manufacturing).
