Join us on our journey and help us collaborate towards our newly announced game: Blood Message. It is set in historical China and features a realistic visual style and authentic traditional combat gameplay. The project is committed to delivering exceptional gaming experiences by making use of Unreal Engine 5. We are a co-development video game studio based in Toronto, Canada who collaborates closely with our headquarters in China. The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in crafting intricate narratives for games and can seamlessly integrate these narratives into the player experience. Their responsibilities include designing and implementing narrative systems that support and enhance the story overall.
Good To Have:
  • Screenwriting-focused portfolio pieces (welcomed, but not required)
Must Have:
  • Act as the bridge between local teams (MTL/TOR) and main Narrative development in China.
  • Work with Level Designers to turn technical needs into story beats.
  • Implement and integrate Narrative content from head studio in Unreal Engine.
  • Contribute to Narrative Design process and workflow.
  • Help strategize scenarios that support the narrative vision for each map.
  • Work closely with other departments (Level Art, Audio, Animation) to craft narrative vision.
  • Minimum 5+ years in narrative or design role, including one shipped AAA game.
  • Extensive familiarity with game editors, production tools, and game engines.
  • Proven experience in owning a feature from concept to implementation.
  • Knowledge of contemporary gameplay and narrative design, understanding narrative systems and delivery methods.
  • Ability to quickly respond to feedback and iterate on designs.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.

We are a co-development video game studio based in Toronto, Canada who collaborates closely with our headquarters in China.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in crafting intricate narratives for games and can seamlessly integrate these narratives into the player experience. Their responsibilities include designing and implementing narrative systems that support and enhance the story overall.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the bridge between the needs of our local teams in MTL/TOR and the main Narrative development in China.
  • Work with our Level Designers to turn their technical needs into cleverly crafted story beats.
  • Implement and integrate Narrative content supplied from our head studio in Unreal Engine
  • Contribute to the Narrative Design process and workflow.
  • Help strategize scenarios that support the narrative vision for each map.
  • Work closely with other departments such as Level Art, Audio, Animation & more to help craft a full realization of the narrative vision to the player.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 5+ years working in a narrative or design role, including at least one shipped AAA game title.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive familiarity with game editors, production tools, and game engines.
  • Feature Ownership: Proven experience in owning a feature from concept to implementation.
  • Narrative Expertise: Knowledge of contemporary gameplay and narrative design, with an understanding of various narrative systems and delivery methods.
  • Feedback Agility: Ability to quickly respond to feedback and iterate on designs.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.

Note: although there is a great degree of creative problem-solving and plot structure work involved, this is not a Writer role, as the final copy of the game's dialogue is provided by the writing team in China with cultural and contextual expertise in the historical aspects of the game. Therefore, screenwriting-focused portfolio pieces are welcomed, but not required, and writing tests are not part of the hiring process. This role focuses on both implementation in Unreal Engine and interdisciplinary collaboration to define gameplay flow and story beats within levels.
