Our Montreal team is expanding, seeking a Lead 3D Character Artist to establish the technical and artistic foundation for our original project in Unreal 5, focusing on stylized characters (Humanoid, Hard Surface, Wildlife). You will collaborate with the art direction and manage the 3D Character Art Team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to make a significant mark on a new IP, requiring a collaborative spirit and proactive involvement.
Must Have:
  • Work closely with the Directors to maintain Character Art Direction throughout the project.
  • Establish Workflows, manage Workload and bring Structure to a Team of Artists.
  • Collaborate with all other disciplines to ensure highest visual quality, optimization and best pipeline.
  • Work with the Content Tech team to suggest technical solutions for quality improvements.
  • Inspire, mentor and manage the 3D Character Art team.
  • Document and share knowledge often and freely.
  • Understand Rigging and Animation requirements.
  • Be active in the recruitment process.
  • Supervise any outsourced work and ensure delivery to specification.
  • 1 shipped title as a Lead 3D Character Artist or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience as a 3D Character Artist or equivalent with a AAA game engine.
  • Expert knowledge of industry standard tools and workflows (JIRA, 3ds Max/Maya, Substance, Zbrush).
  • Extensive Portfolio showcasing skill and passion for Stylized Character Art.
  • Strong understanding of PBR rendering and its interplay with real time lighting.
  • Experience in full game development cycle (Pre-Production to Shipped).
  • Unreal Engine experience in Game Development.

Lead 3D Character Artist

Our team in Montreal is growing and we are looking for a Lead 3D Character Artist to help us lay the groundwork for our original project and set the technical and artistic benchmark in Unreal 5 for all our Stylized Characters (Humanoid, Hard Surface, and Wildlife).

You will work closely towards the established Stylized Art Direction and manage the 3D Character Art Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Directors to maintain Character Art Direction throughout the project
  • Establish Workflows, manage Workload and bring Structure to a Team of Artists in collaboration with Project Management
  • Get together with all other disciplines involved in our cross-discipline approach to ensure we maintain the highest visual quality, optimization and the best pipeline throughout the production
  • Work with the Content Tech team to suggest technical solutions to achieve quality improvements
  • Be a role model with the drive to help others succeed with a positive attitude
  • inspire, mentor and manage the 3D Character Art team
  • Document and share your knowledge often and freely with other members of the team
  • Understanding Rigging and Animation requirements
  • Be active in the recruitment process
  • Supervise any outsourced work and ensure the delivery of work to the specification.

Qualifications:

  • 1 shipped title as a Lead 3D Character Artist or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience as a 3D Character Artist or equivalent with a AAA game engine
  • Expert knowledge of industry standard tools and workflows, such as JIRA, 3ds Max/Maya, Substance, and Zbrush.
  • Extensive Portfolio that showcases your skill and passion for the Stylized Character Art (Hard Surface, Humanoid, and Wildlife)
  • Openness to try new things and explore different styles.
  • Strong understanding of PBR rendering and its interplay with real time lighting.
  • Experience in full game development cycle (Pre-Production to Shipped)

  • Unreal Engine experience in Game Development
