This Senior Operations Manager role is for a battery cell manufacturer, located onsite with travel between Dallas, TX, Smyrna, TN, and Bowling Green, KY. The manager will oversee operations at the supplier's facility, focusing on operational excellence, strategic planning, process improvements, and supplier growth in the US. Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, ensuring quality standards, driving continuous improvement using lean principles, managing costs, and collaborating with internal teams. The role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in operations management and transformation.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10-12 years of experience in operations or supplier management
  • 3-5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and cost reduction
  • In-depth knowledge of battery cell manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of quality control methodologies
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers
Good to have:
  • Master's degree
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing supplier relationships
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems
  • Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or other relevant quality management systems

About the position:
Location: Dallas, TX / Smyrna, TN / Bowling Green, KY (Fully onsite with travel to the other locations)

The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations at a battery cell manufacturer's facility, stationed at the supplier's location. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in operations management, strategy, and transformation. The Senior Operations Manager will ensure operational excellence, drive process improvements, and oversee the growth of suppliers in the US over time. This position will report directly to the Director of Operations and Quality.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Lead transformation initiatives to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations at the supplier's facility, ensuring that production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, and operational issues are promptly addressed.
Supplier Growth: Oversee the growth and development of suppliers in the US, ensuring they meet the company's quality and performance standards. Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure alignment with company goals.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Utilize lean manufacturing principles and other methodologies to drive operational excellence.
Quality Assurance: Work closely with the Quality Engineer to ensure that all products meet the required specifications and standards. Implement and oversee quality control processes to maintain high-quality production.
Cost Management: Develop and execute strategies to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality. Optimize material usage, improve production techniques, and reduce waste.
Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, procurement, and logistics, to ensure alignment on operational objectives and process changes. Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, supplier growth, cost reduction efforts, and process improvements. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
Training and Development: Provide training and support to the supplier's team on operational standards, cost reduction techniques, and best practices. Ensure that the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve operational excellence.

What an ideal candidate brings to Fluence?
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field required. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 10–12 years of progressive experience in operations or supplier management, with 3–5 years in a leadership role, ideally within battery cell manufacturing or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of driving process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of battery cell manufacturing processes, quality control methodologies, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Travel: Managing between facilities could constitute up to 50% travel

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing supplier relationships.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems and related technologies.
  • Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or other relevant quality management systems.
