Upgrade is seeking a Senior Software Developer for its Identity and Access Management (IAM) team in Canada (Remote). This role involves contributing to the IAM roadmap, developing new features for internal platforms and user-facing products, and acting as a technical expert in authentication and authorization within a microservices architecture. The ideal candidate will have advanced Java proficiency, experience with security standards like OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and knowledge of Kubernetes. At Upgrade, the Platform team works cross-functionally with our various engineering teams. We design tools, services, and shared libraries to simplify, abstract, and accelerate the daily lives of our developers.

As part of the Platform group, the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team is responsible for our authentication service, as well as everything related to authentication and authorization in our microservices architecture.

We are looking for a passionate Java developer to help us advance the IAM roadmap at Upgrade. Join us!

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of the IAM team's roadmap.
  • Develop new IAM-related features: both for the internal platform and for user-facing products.
  • Act as a technical expert (SME) on authentication and authorization topics.

  • Advanced proficiency in Java development (knowledge of Golang is a plus).
  • Comfortable with security best practices and a good understanding of associated standards: OAuth, OIDC, JWT.
  • Prior experience in a microservices environment.
  • Experience within IAM teams.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and patterns related to using Kubernetes.
  • Good communication and empathy skills. You will interact with various stakeholders at Upgrade to help define our vision.
  • University degree in computer science or a related field.

The compensation range for this position in Canada is $150,000 to $250,000 CAD per year, in addition to equity and benefits. Within this range, an individual's base compensation will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, education, and experience related to the position.
