Job Summary

The Cataloging Team is responsible for the holistic, fully automated assignment of shop data to our catalog structure. Our systems classify over 2 billion offers by category and product type, recognize manufacturer information and product properties, and integrate them into the idealo product catalog. We combine classic backend development with modern machine learning approaches, always following the principle: You build it, you run it. You will work in an environment where you not only write code but also take responsibility for the entire technical chain – from architecture to deployment and operation in a cloud-native AWS environment. Must Have

  • Responsible for the continuous development of backend services and expansion of AWS infrastructure in coordination with Product, ML, and Data.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated deployments via CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and ensure stable operation of Apache Kafka, MongoDB, and CloudWatch.
  • Analyze existing systems, identify optimization potential, and ensure solutions are performant, scalable, and secure.
  • Develop new solutions, drive the transition to modern cloud patterns, and actively contribute knowledge of new technologies.
  • Support colleagues with onboarding, share knowledge with working students, and foster an environment of learning and growth.
  • Several years of experience in backend development, ideally with Kotlin.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS (EC2, EKS, S3, VPC).
  • Sound knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, especially with AWS CDK (TypeScript).
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Proficient in Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript.

Good to Have

  • First experience in frontend/client development with React.
  • Interest in serverless architectures and modern cloud concepts.
  • Enthusiasm for automation, machine learning, and data-driven systems.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Further Development & Architecture: In close coordination with Product, ML, and Data, you are responsible for the continuous further development of our backend services and the expansion of our AWS infrastructure.
  • Cloud & Automation: You rely on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated deployments via CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and take responsibility for the stable operation of central components such as Apache Kafka, MongoDB, and CloudWatch.
  • Performance & Security: You analyze existing systems, identify optimization potential, and ensure that our solutions are performant, scalable, and secure.
  • Innovation & Evolution: Together with your team, you develop new solutions, drive the transition to modern cloud patterns, and actively contribute your knowledge of new technologies.
  • Mentoring & Team Spirit: You support colleagues with onboarding, share your knowledge with working students, and foster an environment where learning and growth are natural.

Requirements & Skills

Must-Have

  • Several years of experience in backend development, ideally with Kotlin
  • Deep knowledge of AWS (EC2, EKS, S3, VPC)
  • Sound knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, especially with AWS CDK (TypeScript)
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions)
  • Proficient in Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript
  • Strong communication skills, authenticity, and enjoyment in jointly solving complex tasks
  • You question the status quo, think holistically, and proactively drive topics forward
