Zoox is seeking a Senior/Staff Data Scientist to join their Data team, which leverages data from autonomous vehicles and operations to assess autonomy and service readiness, providing foundational support for strategic decision-making. The role involves research and development of algorithms for fleet management, including allocation and ETA, crucial for scaling Zoox's operations. The position offers access to unique datasets in the autonomous vehicle industry and collaboration with experienced professionals. Responsibilities include deploying models for fleet allocation and ETA, designing algorithms for optimal vehicle allocation to enhance customer experience, and establishing best practices for data-driven decision-making.
Must have:
- Deep knowledge of Economics, Operations Research, or Mathematical Optimization
- Experience driving decision-making at various levels
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or Scala
- Sound statistical inference skills
- Ability to communicate uncertainty to stakeholders
- Experience designing metrics and building mechanisms for business insights
Good to have:
- Basic fluency in C++
- Experience with geospatial data analysis
- Experience with Spark or large-scale data analysis
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms

Job Details
The Data team leverages data from our autonomous vehicles and operations to determine autonomy and service readiness. We provide the foundation for strategic decision-making at Zoox. You will be responsible for the research and development of algorithms to manage our fleet, including allocation and ETA. You will play a key role in enabling Zoox to scale. You will join a diverse, experienced team with rapidly growing scope and responsibility while also having access to one of the most unique data sets in the autonomous vehicle industry.
In this role, you will
- Collaborate with product software to deploy your models for fleet allocation and ETA
- Design algorithms to automatically allocate vehicles to deliver a premium experience to our customers
- Establish best practices and statistical rigor around data-driven decision-making
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of Economics, Operations Research, or Mathematical Optimization
- Experience driving decision-making at various levels in an organizationFamiliarity with SQL, Python, R, or Scala
- Sound statistical inference skills, with the ability to communicate uncertainty appropriately to engineering and business stakeholders

$217,000 - $295,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
