Job Summary

Job Description

The Senior Technical Animator will maintain the production and software pipeline, create high-quality characters, creatures, and props, implement them in Unreal Engine, and collaborate with modelers and animators. They will also contribute to pipeline tools, provide optimized assets or code, and occasionally support recruitment and onboarding. The role requires 5+ years of experience, strong mentoring skills, and expertise in Maya, anatomy, and character movement. Good communication, Python coding ability, and familiarity with Unreal Engine are also required.
Must have:
  • Maintain production and software pipeline.
  • Create high-quality character rigging and skinning.
  • Implement characters in Unreal Engine.
  • Work with modelers and animators.
  • Experience with Maya, rigging, and skinning.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and movement.
  • Excellent English communication skills.

Founded in 2002, we made our mark on the shooter genre with titles such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders. We are one of the most experienced Unreal Engine studios in the industry and we are expanding it with in-house solutions called PCF Framework.

Our creative teams are currently working on several exciting titles: Gemini is our new project being developed with Square Enix; Gears of War: E-Day is a Triple-A game developed in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation. We are also busy working on a VR and undisclosed projects, more information on those to come later.

Job Description

  • Maintenir le pipeline de production et de logiciels tout en respectant les délais.
  • Créer des personnages, des créatures et des accessoires de haute qualité, le 'rigging' et peau, techniquement appropriés pour présenter l'univers désiré.
  • Mettre en œuvre de manière autonome les personnages dans Unreal Engine, y compris les tissus, la physique et les configurations de plans. 
  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec les modélistes et les animateurs afin d'assurer un pipeline de développement fluide qui fournit des actifs de haute qualité.
  • Contribuer aux outils du pipeline et travailler avec les responsables du moteur et du projet sur l'amélioration continue de ces outils.
  • Capacité à fournir des actifs ou du code optimisés dans le cadre des systèmes et des exigences établis.
  • Travailler de manière autonome sur les outils du pipeline et, en collaboration avec les responsables des moteurs et des projets, proposer une amélioration continue de ces outils, notamment en faisant avancer les études de cas de recherche et développement.
  • Occasionnellement, soutenir le chef de projet dans les projets de recrutement avec la collaboration des RH.
  • Occasionnellement, soutenir le processus d'intégration des nouveaux employés.

  • Maintain the production and software pipeline and meet deadlines.
  • Creating high quality characters, creatures and props rigging and skinning suitable technically to project the desired  universe.
  • Autonomously implementing characters in Unreal Engine including cloth, physics and blueprint setups. 
  • Work closely with modelers and animators to ensure a smooth development pipeline that delivers high quality assets.
  • Contributes to pipeline tools and working with engine and project leads on continuous improvement of those engine tools.
  • Ability to provide clean and optimized assets or code within established systems and requirements.
  • Autonomously work on pipeline tools and working with engine and project leads and propose continuous improvement of those engine tools including pushing forward on R&D case studies.
  • Occasionally support Lead in recruitment projects with HR collaboration.
  • Occasionally support new hires onboarding process.

Qualifications

  • Généralement 5 ans ou plus d'expérience, participation au cycle de production d'au moins un titre. 
  • Bonnes compétences en matière de mentorat.
  • Forte compréhension des dépendances entre départements et des domaines de collaboration nécessaires tout au long du projet.
  • Expérience approfondie de Maya, avec une spécialisation en 'rigging'/peau.
  • Forte compréhension de l'anatomie et des mouvements des personnages, avec une attention particulière à la déformation physique.
  • Connaissance des rigs faciaux pour les jeux, la télévision ou le cinéma.
  • Forte simulation physique sur les tissus, les cheveux et autres éléments physiques.
  • Excellentes compétences en communication avec la capacité de fournir clairement un retour d'information technique sur les tâches, les rigs, les ensembles d'outils et la documentation.
  • Bonnes compétences en programmation, capacité d'écrire du code Python.
  • Familiarité avec les pipelines de production d'art du moteur Unreal, y compris les fonctionnalités liées aux personnages et à l'animation.
  • Motivation personnelle.
  • Excellentes compétences en communication orale et écrite en anglais.

Vous avez peut-être:

  • Expérience en modélisation et animation
  • Familiarité avec d'autres outils comme Houdini et blender est un plus.

  • Typically 5+ years, Involved in the production cycle of at least 1 title 
  • Good mentoring skills.
  • Strong understanding of department dependencies and needed areas of collaboration throughout the project.
  • Great experience with Maya, specializing in rigging/skinning.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and character movement with close attention to physical deformation.
  • Knowledge of facial rigs for games, television or film.
  • Strong physics simulation on cloth, hair and other physics items.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly provide technical feedback into the tasks, rigs, toolsets and documentation.
  • Good programming skills, ability to write Python code.
  • Familiarity with Unreal engine art production pipelines including notably character/animation related features.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Nice to have:

  • Modeling and animation experience
  • Familiarity with other tools like Houdini and blender is a plus
