Apple is seeking a Software Asset Manager to join the Hardware Engineering Operations team. This role involves owning high-impact initiatives in software license management, building scalable methods and systems, optimizing processes, and using data for decision-making. The manager will be responsible for analyzing and proactively managing software licenses related to product development and engineering workflows, ensuring optimal license usage while supporting critical user workflows.
Must have:
  • Maintain accurate inventory of software licenses, including feature-level tracking.
  • Conduct annual and period planning for license renewals, collaborating with Procurement and vendors.
  • Monitor and assess license usage to identify optimization opportunities and recommend changes.
  • Provide input for contract negotiations, considering user workflow needs, flexibility, scalability, and cost.
  • Identify and drive process improvement opportunities.
  • Consolidate, validate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Leverage quantitative and qualitative business insights to develop and implement smart business decisions.
Good to have:
  • Experience with usage analytics or reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with different software license models (e.g., node-locked, floating, subscription).
  • Experience in reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, amendments, etc.
  • Familiarity with engineering-specific applications (e.g., Ansys, MATLAB, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).

We’re looking for a sharp, execution-focused Software Asset Manager to join Hardware Engineering’s Operations team and take ownership of high-impact initiatives in our software license management space. Our mission is to systematically enable and improve HWE’s business and operational outcomes. That means building methods and systems that scale, optimizing processes, and using data to drive the right decisions. This role is responsible for analysis and proactive management of product development and engineering workflow-related software licenses. The ideal candidate has strong organizational and analytical skills and enjoys working cross-functionally to ensure optimal license usage while supporting critical user workflows that directly impact our ability to develop our iconic products. Maintain an accurate inventory of software licenses, including feature-level tracking when necessary to enable proactive management. Conduct annual and other period planning to proactively track, forecast, and drive license renewals, collaborating with Procurement and vendors to avoid disruptions in service and align renewals with business needs. Monitor and assess license usage to identify optimization opportunities and recommend changes to reduce cost and improve efficiency. Provide input for contract negotiations, considering factors such as user workflow needs, business flexibility, scalability, and cost. Identify and drive process improvement opportunities to create efficiencies and improve overall outcomes. Consolidate, validate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources to drive intelligent decision making. Leverage quantitative and qualitative business insights in order to develop, communicate, and implement smart business decisions.

  • Bachelors degree and solid professional experience in asset management or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventories, track usage, and ensure compliance with legal agreements.
  • Strong analytical skills — you love working with data and can connect it to real-world decisions.
  • Aptitude for blending qualitative and quantitative data to formulate and drive a clear plan and related communications.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders or vendors.
  • Experience with usage analytics or reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with different software license models (e.g., node-locked, floating, subscription).
  • Experience in reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, amendments, etc.
  • Familiarity with engineering-specific applications (e.g., Ansys, MATLAB, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,306 and $213,700 annualized, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
