Job Summary

Applied Materials is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join their software product development group in Chennai, India. This role involves designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment, focusing on quality and functionality. The SDET will create and execute test cases, troubleshoot software problems, and contribute to innovative, quality releases of mission-critical software. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with strong programming and test automation skills.

Must Have

  • Understand high-level programming language code and component interaction
  • Understand project documents, customer use-cases, marketing requirements, and product objectives to create and execute test cases
  • Set up, write, maintain, and perform test automation frameworks on multiple application platforms (desktop, API, mobile, web), and build test scenarios and acceptance tests
  • Troubleshoot software problems of limited difficulty
  • Handle technical communications and understand customers' systems
  • Work with deployment teams, resolve level issues for systems, coordinate on product design, and offer inputs on testability of functional elements and product designs
  • Update defect tracking systems regarding status of various tickets
  • Analyze and decompose software systems and coordinate with other teams to enhance overall design
  • Research test tools, methodologies, and trends and upgrade existing practices and processes
  • Manage the final quality on production releases

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
  • Excellent designing and programming skills
  • Knowledge of programming languages and process management methodology

Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. Your Opportunity

As a software development engineer in test (SDET), you will

  • Experience seamless exposure to different facets of technologies and functional areas (development, integration, performance, Quality Assurance, etc.) without silos.
  • Participate in the horizontal growth of development on multiple products and solutions of varying complexity, scaling operations to the enterprise level.
  • Have the potential for growth in the software organization as well as in allied customer fronting roles.

Roles and Responsibility

The Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET) role is part of the Software Quality Assurance group.

  • Understanding the flow of high-level programming language code and how it interacts with different components.
  • Understanding project documents, customer use-cases, marketing requirements, and product objectives to create and execute test cases.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Experience level – 2-4 years.
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with Test Automation Frameworks, knowledge of Winium, pytest and Python a plus.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science subject to the condition that aspirants have a strong fundamental in Software Engineering and have proven ability to comprehend and synthesize solutions using programing constructs/ techniques, as deemed appropriate for the situation.
