Job Summary
The Staff Embedded Software Engineer at Lytx contributes to the technical development of embedded platforms, collaborating with hardware, product, server software, tech support, and security teams. This role defines the future state of the platform and drives the development of market-leading Video Telematics Recorders. Responsibilities include evaluating frameworks, developing new software architectures, advising on cloud-connected systems, and improving development processes for Lytx's extensive fleet of Video Telematics Recorders.
Must Have
- Think broadly about the complete integrated platform (manufacturing, provisioning, installation, operation, monitoring)
- Evaluate frameworks, libraries, tools, operating systems, and third-party products
- Develop and experiment with new software architectures
- Advise on, design, and experiment with cloud-connected systems
- Experiment with and advise on process changes, build systems, and in-field monitoring systems
- Work cross-functionally with hardware, field installation, product management, and technical support teams
- Provide technical guidance to solve challenging Embedded Software issues
- Actively participate in technical peer reviews
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Electronics with minimum 8+ years of overall experience
- Proven 5+ years of experience in Android-based product development (Java, JNI, system-level integration)
- Deep experience in Camera API integration, Sensor programming, Background service management, threading, concurrency models, Android SDK build tools, system-level debugging
- Solid 5+ years of experience in C++ and embedded Linux development
- Expertise in video / telematics/IOT application
- Ability to work across BSP builds and application area
- Proven experience in building and supporting devices deployed at large scale
- Strong exposure to design pattern and SOLID design principles
- Ability to architect and design complex embedded systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and drive cross-functional initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex software-hardware integration issues
- Experience in defining best practices, code reviews, and enforcing quality standards

Job Description
The Staff Embedded Software Engineer at Lytx is responsible for making strong contributions to the technical development of our embedded platforms. You will collaborate with hardware, product, server software, tech support and security teams to keep Lytx a leader in the Video Safety Telematics market.
Together with the Device Software Team, you will help define the future state of our platform, and work with our cross-functional partners to drive the continued development of our market leading Video Telematics Recorders.
Day to Day
- You will think broadly about our complete integrated platform, starting at manufacturing, through provisioning, vehicle installation, operation and monitoring to ensure the Lytx Video Telematics Recorder Platform solves the right problems in the right ways
- You will evaluate frameworks, libraries, tools, operating systems, and third-party products to provide technical direction to the Embedded Software organization.
- You will develop and experiment with new software architectures to inform the next generation of our Embedded Platform
- You will advise on, design, and experiment with cloud-connected systems to improve overall customer experience through integrated monitoring
- You will experiment with and advise on process changes, build systems, and in-field monitoring systems to accelerate Embedded Software development on our 1M fielded Video Telematics Recorders
- You will work cross-functionally with the hardware engineering, field installation, product management, and technical support teams to ensure Lytx customers experience the highest standards of performance
- You will provide technical guidance and experience to solve challenging Embedded Software issues
- You will actively participate in technical peer reviews to ensure software requirements are being met from an end-to-end system point of view.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Electronics with minimum 8+ years of overall experience
- Proven 5+ years of experience in Android-based product development, including strong expertise in Java, JNI, and system-level integration.
- Deep experience in multiple areas of Android product development, such as:
- Camera API integration
- Sensor programming (accelerometer, light sensor, gyroscope, etc.) with optimization for performance and power.
- Background service management, threading, and concurrency models.
- Migration and modernization of legacy Android/Java projects to latest Android versions and frameworks.
- Strong understanding of Android SDK build tools and system-level debugging.
- Solid 5+ years of experience in C++ and embedded Linux development
- Expertise in video / telematics/IOT application
- Ability to work across BSP builds and application area
- Proven experience in building and supporting devices that has been deployed in large scale
- Strong exposure to design pattern and SOLID design principles
- Ability to architect and design complex embedded systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex software-hardware integration issues.
- Experience in defining best practices, code reviews, and enforcing quality standards across teams.
- End to end product life cycle experience in at least one of the following product areas is preferred: IOT, Video, edge AI devices
