Job Description

As a System Department Manager at Valeo in Tokyo, you will be accountable for the development plan and schedule within your R&D scope. You will lead the System team to achieve internal and customer milestones, monitor progress, identify bottlenecks, and organize task forces. This role involves ensuring robust design, applying standardization rules, and representing the R&D function to customers, breaking down their requests. You will also manage R&D contributors, assign work packages, and monitor activities and spending within the allocated budget.
Must Have:
  • Responsible for the development plan and schedule within his/her R&D scope.
  • Leads the System team toward achieving each internal and customer milestone.
  • Leads daily R&D alignment meetings to monitor progress and identify bottlenecks.
  • Organizes and leads task forces when required.
  • Ensures robust design in line with economic targets.
  • Applies standardization rules; exceptionally requests de-standardization with proper justification.
  • Ensures timely execution of Design Reviews across other functions (Purchasing, Industrial, etc.).
  • Represents the R&D function to the customer.
  • Interfaces with the customer on R&D-related project topics, breaking down and cascading customer requests and needs internally.
  • Reports and escalates issues to the Project Manager or R&D Manager as needed.
  • Contributes to the identification of resource, equipment, and investment needs.
  • Establishes a detailed breakdown of activities to meet milestones.
  • Monitors activities and spending within his/her scope to remain within the allocated budget.
  • Manages all R&D contributors daily, whether dedicated or shared.
  • Assigns work packages as required.
  • Regularly reviews alignment between needs and availabilities with the R&D Manager, Product Manager, and Métier Department Managers.
