Veeam Backup

The Backup Engineer is responsible for monitoring, managing, and supporting the Veeam backup infrastructure, ensuring reliable backup operations across virtual and physical environments. This role involves incident handling, troubleshooting, coordination with internal and external teams, and continuous improvements in backup processes. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure, application, and network teams to ensure availability and performance of the backup ecosystem, performing root cause analysis and maintaining documentation.

Must Have

• Monitor and manage incidents, service requests, and alerts related to Veeam backup infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across Veeam components (Backup Server, Proxies, Repositories, etc.).
• Support integrated systems such as VMware, storage, and networking during backup-related issues.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors through email and ticketing tools.
• Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate documentation for incidents, changes, configurations, and procedures.
• Support maintenance tasks including patching, upgrades, capacity checks, and configuration validation.
• Basic system administration experience in Linux and Windows environments.
• Basic understanding of backup technologies, particularly Veeam Backup & Replication.
• Basic administration knowledge of VMware vCenter and VMware NSX.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts.
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes (Incidents, Changes, Requests).

Position Summary

The Backup Engineer is responsible for monitoring, managing, and supporting the Veeam backup infrastructure, ensuring reliable backup operations across virtual and physical environments. The role involves incident handling, troubleshooting, coordination with internal and external teams, and continuous improvements in backup processes. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure, application, and network teams to ensure availability and performance of the backup ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage incidents, service requests, and alerts related to Veeam backup infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across Veeam components (Backup Server, Proxies, Repositories, etc.).
• Support integrated systems such as VMware, storage, and networking during backup-related issues.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors through email and ticketing tools.
• Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate documentation for incidents, changes, configurations, and procedures.
• Support maintenance tasks including patching, upgrades, capacity checks, and configuration validation.
• Participate in on-call rotation or scheduled support activities as required.
• Contribute to improving backup process efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Technical Skills Required

• IT PC Literacy: Advanced
• Hardware/Software Overview: Intermediate
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes (Incidents, Changes, Requests).
• Core platform knowledge: Intermediate
• Basic system administration experience in Linux and Windows environments.
• Basic understanding of backup technologies, particularly Veeam Backup & Replication.
• Basic administration knowledge of VMware vCenter and VMware NSX.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability.
• Good communication skills for interacting with internal teams and vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent technical qualification.
• 3 to 9 years of experience in infrastructure or backup support roles.
• Exposure to enterprise IT environments with virtualization, Linux/Windows, and networking knowledge.
