Job Description

Thales is seeking a System Engineer for Air Traffic Control Solutions in Bucharest, Romania. This hybrid role involves contributing to product documentation, supporting delivery teams, defining and executing test strategies for system verification and validation, and managing project schedules and risks. The successful candidate will work within the Land and Air Systems (LAS) Global Business Unit, focusing on airspace control and security solutions, and will interface with international teams.

Must Have:
  • Contribute to maintaining product documentation (requirements, specification, interfaces documents).
  • Support the delivery team as needed with clarifications, prioritizations.
  • Deliver toward the agreed plan / baseline.
  • Contribute to the test strategy definition for system verification and validation.
  • Execute test cases for verification and validation phases.
  • Contribute to the project meetings and interface with the key stakeholders.
  • Maintain SE schedule and manage the risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure Thales processes (Chorus) are being followed on the project.
  • Maintain quality standards in accordance with the Project management Plan and Engineering plan.
  • Build and maintain an onboarding kit for SE newcomers in Romania.
  • General engineering Diploma.
  • 1+ years’ experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software-centric real-time systems.
  • 3+ years’ experience as System Engineer on complex system.
  • Experience in the ATM Domain and Air Traffic Management standards eg. ICAO, Eurocontrol.
  • Proven capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives.
  • Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with variety of international customers.
  • Experience in managing backlog priorities and project planning.
  • Master System Engineering tools eg. DOORs, Jira, Polarion.
  • Aptitude to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary integrated team environment.
  • Knowledge of testing, verification and validation techniques.
  • Sound judgement and independent decision-making capability where necessary.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

AMS represents revenues of over 500 million Euros worldwide and is the global market leader in the space of Air Traffic Management and one of the most credible players in the new UTM space.

AMS address different markets of Air Traffic Control (ATC) solutions (mainly SW based). Projects involves teams in France (Rungis/Toulouse), Portugal, UK, Romania and Australia.

The System Engineer and Verification / Validation (SEVV) position is responsible for writing and managing product specifications and interface with the key stakeholders: SE Lead in France, the Feature Teams from the development, integration, verification and validation teams in Romania or in France. SEVV is responsible also to verify and validate the system.

This position is based in Romania at THR with some international travels (30%).

The first 2 to 3 months will require coming to Toulouse for the upskilling / training.

No security clearance required for this position.

The System Engineer and Verification / Validation (SEVV) is responsible for :

  • contributing to maintaining product documentation (requirements, specification, interfaces documents, …)
  • supporting the delivery team as needed with clarifications, prioritizations etc.
  • delivering toward the agreed plan / baseline
  • contributing to the test strategy definition for system verification and validation
  • execution of the tests cases for verification and validation phases
  • contributing to the project meetings and interfacing with the key stakeholders when needed
  • maintaining SE schedule and managing the risks and opportunities
  • ensuring Thales processes (Chorus) are being followed on the project
  • maintaining our quality standards in accordance with the Project management Plan and Engineering plan
  • building and maintaining an onboarding kit for SE newcomers in Romania in collaboration with System Engineering Discipline Manager.

Experience required

  • General engineering Diploma
  • 1+ years’ experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software-centric real-time systems
  • 3+ years’ experience as System Engineer on complex system
  • Experience in the ATM Domain and Air Traffic Management standards eg. ICAO, Eurocontrol
  • Proven capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives
  • Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with variety of international customers
  • Experience in managing backlog priorities and project planning

Knowledge/ Skills

  • Master System Engineering tools eg. DOORs, Jira, Polarion
  • Aptitude to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary integrated team environment
  • Knowledge of testing, verification and validation techniques
  • ISTQB certification is a plus
  • Positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Sound judgement and independent decision-making capability where necessary
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
