The Connection Systems North America (CS NA) team has an exciting technical opportunity for a Tool Support Engineer. Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering General Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing on-site engineering support within the high-speed metal stamping operation. The Tool Support Engineer will work with skilled tradesman (die makers) to maintain and troubleshoot tools running in the plant and implement new tools and tooling technology.
Must have:
  • Provide daily on-site tool support to operations that includes 130 terminal progressive stamping tools in 40 presses
  • Work with, learn from, teach and support 15 or more skilled trades Tool and Die Makers
  • Evaluate tool performance data to identify and implement opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate engineering sample runs for experimental tooling trials and new product development
  • Start-up and release new tools and tool design revisions to support new business opportunities
  • Ensure tools are running to latest design revision levels and tool changes are implemented to print
  • Plan and communicate required spare parts inventories and replenishment points for new and revised tools
  • Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements
  • Work flexible shifts and weekends as needed to optimize support or respond to emergency needs
Good to have:
  • Previous experiences in stamping tool maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Previous experience forming copper and brass terminals or similar components in progressive stamping dies
  • Personable, experienced, patient, and comfortable working directly with plant skilled trades in a union environment
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel possible but limited to short durations and special situations
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Skype, Teams, Visio, etc.)
  • Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics
  • Resourcefully innovative and adapts in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to communicate complex technical ideas and project status
  • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently

Your Role (i.e. Key Job Responsibilities):

  • Provide daily on-site tool support to operations that includes 130 terminal progressive stamping tools in 40 presses
  • Work with, learn from, teach and support 15 or more skilled trades Tool and Die Makers
  • Evaluate tool performance data to identify and implement opportunities for improvement

Your Required Background (i.e. Must Haves):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering Technology OR Journeyman Tool and Die Maker
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Unigraphics NX (preferred) or Solid Works
  • Mechanical aptitude with previous experience with close tolerance tools and measuring devices
  • Previous experience in reading and understanding tool and part prints

Your Preferred Background (i.e. Nice to Haves):

  • Previous experiences in stamping tool maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Previous experience forming copper and brass terminals or similar components in progressive stamping dies
  • Personable, experienced, patient, and comfortable working directly with plant skilled trades in a union environment
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel possible but limited to short durations and special situations
