Job Description

As a Transport Manager at Universal Production Services, based at Sky Studios Elstree, you will oversee the daily management, maintenance, and compliance of a mixed fleet of 26 vehicles. This role involves ensuring full legal compliance with transport regulations, optimizing fleet efficiency, managing drivers, and supporting commercial vehicle hire activities. You will also be responsible for managing the company's Operator's Licence, scheduling vehicle maintenance, and maintaining accurate records, all while promoting safety and professionalism.

Must Have:
  • Manage all aspects of the company’s Operator’s Licence, ensuring full compliance with DVSA and UK transport legislation.
  • Schedule and monitor vehicle inspections, MOTs, and preventive maintenance in coordination with the in-house mechanic and external providers.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records, defect reports, and driver documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure drivers adhere to tachograph, drivers’ hours, and Working Time Directive rules.
  • Line-manage a small team including 2 HGV drivers and 1 mechanic, plus agency staff, providing leadership, direction, and support.
  • Oversee driver recruitment, induction, and ongoing training, promoting a culture of safety and professionalism.
  • Plan and coordinate the use of the fleet for deliveries, collections, and rental operations.
  • Monitor vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and efficiency to maximise fleet performance.
  • Liaise with customers and internal teams to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable transport solutions.
  • Support and oversee the vehicle hire side of the business — ensuring vehicles are prepared, maintained, and presented to a high standard.
  • Manage hire documentation, insurance, and vehicle return processes.
  • Control transport budgets and report on costs, utilisation, and operational performance.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving and efficiency-improvement initiatives.
  • Proven experience in fleet or transport management within a commercial vehicle environment.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Haulage – essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK transport legislation, vehicle compliance, and Operator Licence obligations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • IT literate with experience in fleet management systems or maintenance scheduling software.
  • Clean UK driving licence.

Job Description

Based at Sky Studios Elstree, Universal Production Services is a fast-growing lighting, rigging and transport rental facility supplying to the film and television production industries. We pride ourselves on delivering top-tier equipment, exceptional customer service, and operational excellence. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Fleet Manager.

We have a mixed fleet of 26 vehicles — from 18-tonne trucks to Luton vans — supporting both our own delivery and collection operations as well as a thriving rental service for customers. We pride ourselves on providing a reliable, compliant, and efficient transport service with a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

Role Overview

You will oversee the day-to-day management, maintenance, and compliance of our fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring full legal compliance with all transport regulations, optimising fleet efficiency, managing employed and agency drivers, and supporting the company’s commercial vehicle hire activities.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Operations & Compliance

  • Manage all aspects of the company’s Operator’s Licence, ensuring full compliance with DVSA and UK transport legislation.
  • Schedule and monitor vehicle inspections, MOTs, and preventive maintenance in coordination with the in-house mechanic and external providers.

People Management
