Job Description

We are looking for an experienced UI Technical Artist to join the Haven Entertainment Studios project team. This role involves participating in the development of our UI toolkit alongside the programming team, translating UI direction into effective widgets using technical expertise in composition and animation. The successful candidate will ensure UI is optimal, functional, efficient, and bug-free, collaborating closely with the engineering team. The UI Technical Artist will report to the Producer.
Good To Have:
  • Shipped UI content in a 60fps game.
  • C++ proficiency
  • Strong expertise of Unreal Engine
  • Familiarity with Sony’s PlayStation console/tools
Must Have:
  • Work with the engineering team to put in place the project’s UI toolkit.
  • Develop widgets that will allow UI artists to quickly iterate on UI features.
  • Prototype new widgets that are not part of the toolkit through scripting.
  • Leverage telemetry data to continuously improve UI quality and performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the necessary skills within the team and evangelize best practices inside the studio.

Haven joined the PlayStation Studios family as the first Sony game development team in Canada in 2022.

We have made amazing progress in a short time thanks to our talented, passionate team and their excellent contributions. Our first game, Fairgames, is in development for PlayStation and PC. Fairgames is a competitive multiplayer action heist with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill and playfulness that will entertain and engage players for years to come.

**Position – UI Technical Artist**

We are looking for an experienced UI Technical Artist to join the Haven Entertainment Studios project team. The UI Technical Artist will participate in the development of our UI toolkit alongside our programming team. They will be responsible for translating UI direction into effective widgets using their technical expertise in composition and animation. The UI Technical Artist will have a strong understanding of both technical and artistic aspects of UI design. The successful candidate ensures UI is as optimal as possible and collaborates with the engineering team to ensure that all UI features are functional, efficient, and free of bugs.

**Reporting**

The UI Technical Artist will report to the Producer.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

  • Work with the engineering team to put in place the project’s UI toolkit.
  • Develop widgets that will allow UI artists to quickly iterate on UI features.
  • Prototype new widgets that are not part of the toolkit through scripting.
  • Leverage telemetry data to continuously improve UI quality and performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the necessary skills within the team and evangelize best practices inside the studio.

**Experience and Skills Required**

  • Understand graphical parameters related to UI, such as resolution, scale, and aspect ratio.
  • Good knowledge of materials in Unreal.
  • Scripting knowledge
  • Good communication with both technical and non-technical team members
  • Self-motivated with a strong collaborative and teamwork oriented mindset.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Good understanding of UX.
  • Experience with MVVM or Bindings.

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Shipped UI content in a 60fps game.
  • C++ proficiency
  • Strong expertise of Unreal Engine
  • Familiarity with Sony’s PlayStation console/tools
