The director will own the game's creative vision, ensuring a cohesive, compelling, and commercially optimized player experience from concept through live operations. Responsibilities include inspiring multidisciplinary teams, translating strategic goals into actionable design, and ensuring the product excels in quality, innovation, and sustained revenue generation within the competitive mobile CCG/TCG market. The role focuses on balancing player enjoyment with ethical monetization.

Position Summary

We're looking for an exceptionally talented and visionary Game Director with extensive, hands-on experience leading the creative and design direction of highly successful Free-to-Play (F2P) mobile card combat games. As Game Director, you'll be the ultimate owner of the game's vision, ensuring a cohesive, compelling, and commercially optimized player experience from concept through extensive live operations. You'll be responsible for inspiring and guiding multidisciplinary teams, translating strategic goals into actionable game design, and ensuring the final product excels in quality, innovation, and sustained revenue generation within the competitive mobile CCG/TCG market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Game Vision & Strategy (with F2P focus):
  • Define, articulate, and champion the overarching creative vision, core gameplay loop, and unique selling proposition for our mobile card combat game, with a keen understanding of its F2P business model integration.
  • Translate market trends, player insights, and monetization targets into innovative and executable game design strategies.
  • Own the game's identity and its monetization pillars, ensuring a seamless and ethical balance between player enjoyment and revenue generation across theme, art style, narrative, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align the game's vision and monetization approach with broader company goals and portfolio strategy.
  • Creative Leadership & Direction (including Monetization Design):
  • Lead, inspire, and provide clear creative direction to the Game Design, Art, Audio, and Narrative teams, ensuring monetization features are designed for maximum impact and player acceptance.
  • Oversee the design of all major game systems, including core card combat mechanics, metagame progression, robust monetization features (e.g., gacha systems, battle passes, subscriptions, cosmetic sales, rewarded ads), social systems, and live event structures.
  • Drive innovation in the card combat genre, exploring new mechanics, modes, and ways to engage players that naturally encourage spending and retention.
  • Conduct regular design and monetization reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring high standards of gameplay, balance, and player experience alongside strong revenue performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with the Production team to ensure the creative vision is translated into a feasible and well-managed development roadmap and schedule, specifically prioritizing features with strong monetization potential.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Leads to understand technical constraints and opportunities for implementing sophisticated F2P systems.
  • Partner extensively with Marketing, User Acquisition, and Community teams to ensure the game's vision and monetization value proposition are effectively communicated to players and the market.
  • Act as the primary creative spokesperson for the game, both internally and externally.
  • Player Experience & Live Operations (with Revenue Optimization):
  • Champion the player's perspective, ensuring all design decisions contribute to a deeply engaging, fair, and fun experience, while also optimizing key monetization KPIs (e.g., ARPU, LTV, conversion rates).
  • Oversee the continuous evolution of the game through live operations, new content releases, and system updates, ensuring long-term player retention and maximizing sustained monetization.
  • Heavily utilize data analytics, A/B testing, and player feedback to inform design iterations, optimize monetization funnels, and balance the game economy for profitability.
  • Budget & Resource Management:
  • Contribute to project budgeting, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to achieve both creative and monetization objectives.
  • Manage external vendor relationships (e.g., localization, outsourcing) as needed.
  • Team Development & Mentorship:
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing creative team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement, with an emphasis on F2P best practices and monetization design.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of extensive experience in game development, with at least 5+ years specifically in a Game Director, Creative Director, or Lead Game Designer role for a Free-to-Play title.
  • Proven track record of shipping multiple successful mobile Free-to-Play card combat games (CCG/TCG) from concept through extensive live operations, demonstrating significant and sustained revenue achievements.
  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in mobile F2P business models, virtual economy design, and sophisticated monetization strategies (e.g., gacha mechanics, battle passes, subscription models, cosmetic item design, rewarded advertising integration, progression monetization).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication (verbal, written, and presentation), and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and inspire a team towards both creative and commercial goals.
  • Strong understanding of technical implementation considerations and development pipelines (e.g., Unity/Unreal).
  • Profound understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and player communities within the mobile games industry, particularly for F2P CCGs/TCGs.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets (KPIs like ARPU, LTV, retention, conversion, whale behavior), identify monetization opportunities, and translate them into actionable design improvements.
  • A comprehensive portfolio showcasing successful game designs, creative vision, and leadership on shipped F2P titles, with a strong emphasis on monetization mechanics.
  • Passion for mobile games, strategic thinking, and the card combat genre is essential, coupled with a pragmatic understanding of the F2P market realities.
