Job Description

Wabtec is seeking an experienced Gear Cutter for a permanent, full-time role in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting, programming, and operating gear and spline cutting equipment, controlling processes, and performing inspections using various measuring tools. Key requirements include a recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, a minimum of one year's experience in the rail or automotive industry, and the ability to read engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.   • Previous experience of Pfauter CNC gear cutter (Siemens 840 control)
  • Previous experience of Pfauter CNC gear tooth grinder (Siemens 840 control)
  • Previous experience of Magg gear tooth grinder (CNC, manual, or semi-automatic) machines
  • Practical mechanically oriented
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated
Must Have:
  • Setting, programming, and operating gear cutting machinery
  • Understanding gear nomenclature and measurement techniques
  • Controlling machines and processes
  • Use of a wide range of measuring equipment to check components
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances without supervision
  • Writing and interpreting instructions and procedures to assemble equipment and products accurately
  • Obtaining relevant information from the relevant sources
  • Performing inspections of equipment, structures, materials, and products
  • Analysing information and finding the best solutions to problems
  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Proficient with using a multitude of test and precision measuring equipment, as well as manual hand tools such as micrometer, Vernier caliper etc.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in relevant rail or automotive industry
  • Legal authorization to work in UK

Hours: Monday to Thursday 07.00 to 16:00pm and Friday 07.00 to 13.00pm, 40 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent - Full-Time

We are looking for an experience Gear Cutter to join our team in Barton Under Needwood. You should be able to set, programme, and operate gear and spline cutting equipment.

What you will be doing…

  • Setting, programming, and operating gear cutting machinery
  • Understanding gear nomenclature and measurement techniques
  • Controlling machines and processes.
  • Use of a wide range of measuring equipment to check components
  • Have the ability to work to tight tolerances without supervision
  • Writing and interpreting instructions and procedures to assemble equipment and products accurately.
  • Obtaining relevant information from the relevant sources
  • Performing inspections of equipment, structures, materials, and products.
  • Analysing information and finding the best solutions to problems.

Are you an individual with the following?

  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Previous experience of TOS gear hobbing machine, Churchill, Liebherr, Barber Colman, Pfauter CNC gear cutter (Siemens 840 control), Pfauter CNC gear tooth grinder (Siemens 840 control), Magg gear tooth grinder (CNC, manual, or semi-automatic) machines would be advantageous
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Proficient with using a multitude of test and precision measuring equipment, as well as manual hand tools such as micrometer, Vernier caliper etc.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in relevant rail or automotive industry.
  • Be practical mechanically oriented.
  • Possess good problem-solving skills.
  • Recognised engineering qualification required.
  • Self-motivated
