Java Software Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW

Plan A Technologies is looking for a talented individual to join our team and contribute to the development of real-money, online, gambling-style games. In this role, you will build server-side game logic components and simulations, working at the intersection of mathematics, game mechanics, and scalable back-end systems.

This is a great opportunity to collaborate with mathematicians, game designers, and front-end developers to deliver exciting gaming experiences that are both technically robust and player-focused.

Please note: you must have at least 5+ years of experience as a Java Software Engineer to be considered for this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Design, implement, and maintain server-side game logic components and simulations.
• Collaborate with mathematicians to evaluate and implement the feasibility of new game features.
• Work closely with front-end game client developers to define and optimize response structures.
• Write unit tests and participate actively in peer code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability.
• Design and develop internal tools that streamline workflows and improve development team efficiency.
• Apply strong OOP principles, algorithms, and design patterns to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.

EXPERIENCE

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Strong proficiency in Java, including the core language, platform, and Java EE technologies.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and software design principles.
• Strong mathematics foundations for implementing algorithms and game logic.
• Good grasp of algorithms and design patterns.
• Familiarity with JavaScript, JSON, and XML.
• Experience with C/C++ programming.
• Knowledge of build automation tools (Jenkins, Maven, ANT).
• Experience writing unit tests and following best practices in code quality.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
• Initiative and drive to do great things.

Nice to have:

• Previous experience in the gaming or gambling industry is a plus.
