Job Description

Manage the planning and area development design for resort roadways and back of house areas, focusing on site planning, placemaking, and soft/hard landscape design solutions. This role involves collaborating with in-house teams and external consultants, contributing to the layout of various resort components, and developing detailed design plans considering building massing, parking, water conveyance, open spaces, and circulation. The position supports all design phases, coordinates with project teams, and manages construction and installation.

Must Have:
  • Manage the planning and area development design for resort roadways and back of house areas, focusing on site planning, placemaking, and soft/hard landscape design solutions.
  • Provide area development and landscape specific designs for resort-wide projects, collaborating with in-house teams and external consultants.
  • Contribute to the layout of roadways, parking, hotels, back-of-house facilities, and other resort components.
  • Develop and manage detailed design plans with consideration given to building massing, parking, water conveyance and retention, open spaces, access points, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, hardscape and landscape areas.
  • Prepare plans and illustrations to convey the thematic environment and design intent.
  • Assist the Planning & Area Development Design management team with a focus on landscape and hardscape design including plant selection that achieves thematic and operational goals.
  • Analyze site constraints and propose solutions related to placemaking, guest circulation, planting areas, landscape materials, hardscape, guest facing and service integration, and transportation/EVA requirements.
  • Support all phases of design (RIBA Phase 2-4), coordinating closely with design, operations, consultants, and project management to maintain design intent and budget alignment.
  • Present designs and interface with project teams at each design phase.
  • Manage and support the construction and installation of the design.
  • Interface with outside vendors, as directed by management, to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Work within the team environment to help maintain common cost/schedule goals.
  • Interface with Universal staff for on-going quality control.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, or equivalent required.
  • Relevant landscape architecture and planning experience with a focus on theme park & resort development required.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Manage the planning and area development design for the resort roadways and back of house areas, focusing on site planning, placemaking, and soft/hard landscape design solutions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (% of time)

  • Provides area development and landscape specific designs for resort-wide projects, collaborating with in-house teams and external consultants. Contributes to the layout of roadways, parking, hotels, back-of-house facilities, and other resort components. Develops and manages detailed design plans with consideration given to building massing, parking, water conveyance and retention, open spaces, access points, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, hardscape and landscape areas. Prepares plans and illustrations to convey the thematic environment and design intent - 30%
  • Assists the Planning & Area Development Design management team with a focus on landscape and hardscape design including plant selection that achieves thematic and operational goals - 20%
  • Analyses site constraints and proposes solutions related to placemaking, guest circulation, planting areas, landscape materials, hardscape, guest facing and service integration, and transportation/EVA requirements. Supports all phases of design (RIBA Phase 2-4), coordinating closely with design, operations, consultants, and project management to maintain design intent and budget alignment. Presents designs and interfaces with project teams at each design phase. Manages and supports the construction and installation of the design - 20%
  • Interfaces with outside vendors, as directed by management, to ensure alignment with project goals - 15%
  • Works within the team environment to help maintain common cost/schedule goals - 10%
  • Interfaces with Universal staff for on-going quality control - 5%
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Potential direct and indirect supervision of contractors and/or consultants depending on the project.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organisation’s policies and applicable laws.

SCOPE

  • Participates in decisions of major nature. High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable results.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, or equivalent required. Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture preferred.

EXPERIENCE
