This is a fully remote, full-time, permanent contractor position.

We're VOID Interactive, the kickass team behind the best-selling FPS game, Ready or Not. We're made up of some seriously talented individuals who love games and creating awesome content together. We’re seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Lead Character Artist to join us remotely and help us elevate Ready or Not to new heights. Our goal is strong: to establish Ready or Not as the quintessential FPS of our time.

As the Lead Character Artist, you're the visionary behind our game's characters, infusing them with personality and charm. Working closely with artists, designers, and project leads, you'll ensure our characters come to life in ways that captivate and immerse our player base.

In this role, you'll be in charge of:

  • Leading the creation and refinement of character concepts, designs, and models, ensuring they align with project goals and artistic vision.
  • Overseeing and providing guidance to the Character Art Team, fostering creativity, and maintaining consistency in style and quality across all characters.
  • Collaborating with Directors, Animators, and Engineers to ensure seamless integration of character designs into Ready or Not.
  • Working closely with production to implement efficient workflows and processes to streamline character creation pipelines, from concept to final model.
  • Addressing technical challenges and optimizing character assets for performance and compatibility across various platforms.
  • Providing mentorship and support to junior artists, fostering their growth and development within the team.
  • Actively participating in feedback sessions and critiques to refine character designs and ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and best practices in character design and 3D modeling techniques.
  • Contributing to the development of style guides and documentation to maintain consistency and cohesion in character art assets.
  • Providing feedback to outsourced vendors re: characters, and testing of provided updates within Unreal Engine where necessary.

Of course, you won't be alone on this mission - you'll be collaborating with the entire team and outside vendors to ensure we're maximizing our efforts and achieving our goals!

Here’s what you'll be bringing to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Animation, or a related field is preferred but not essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in character art creation for games, film, or related media.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modelling and sculpting software such as ZBrush, Maya, or Blender.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, form, and silhouette in character design.
  • Experience with character rigging and skinning is advantageous.
  • Ability to effectively receive and implement feedback to iterate on character designs.
  • Passion for storytelling and the ability to infuse characters with personality and emotion.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing a team or leading projects.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Adaptability to evolving project requirements and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both verbal and visual, to effectively convey ideas and feedback.
  • Comfortable working in a remote, fast-paced, dynamic environment.

If this sounds like you, please submit your resume, portfolio, and an optional, brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are excited about this opportunity. We look forward to hearing from you and discussing how you can contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional gameplay experiences!

Note: Primary consideration will be given to candidates based in Ireland, although applications from all qualified candidates will be considered. Compensation DOE and location.
