Overview
As a Pack Materials Technician, you will support the development and validation of polymer materials used in Rivian’s battery pack systems. You will be responsible for preparing, testing, and characterizing polymers to ensure they meet performance, safety, and durability requirements. Your work will provide critical data for material selection and design decisions in next-generation battery packs.
Key Responsibilities
- Mix, compound, and prepare polymer materials for evaluation.
- Conduct physical, mechanical, and chemical tests on polymers to assess key properties such as strength, elasticity, thermal stability, and chemical resistance.
- Operate lab equipment for polymer processing and characterization.
- Record and organize test results, observations, and experimental parameters with high accuracy.
- Support engineers in material development projects by preparing samples and assisting with test setup.
- Ensure all activities comply with lab safety standards and proper material handling procedures.
- Maintain lab organization, equipment calibration, and consumable supplies.
Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent hands-on experience in Materials Science, Polymer Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of laboratory or manufacturing experience in materials preparation and testing.
- Familiarity with polymer compounding, mixing, or processing methods.
- Ability to conduct standard mechanical and chemical testing procedures.
- Strong documentation practices and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with polymer characterization techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR).
- Background in automotive, aerospace, or energy storage materials testing.
- Knowledge of adhesives, sealants, or encapsulants used in battery pack assemblies.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and support test method development.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple samples and datasets in parallel.
