We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Job Summary:

What you need to know about the role:
As a Principal Designer, you will work closely with partners to scope, prioritize, execute design efforts in an agile, launch and learn environment. You will collaborate closely with a dynamic team of peers in Product, Content, Research, and Engineering – bringing your customer-centered understanding to opportunities innovate shopping and payments. You will build long-term visions that leverages PayPals’ strengths to differentiate offers in the marketplace, and use those speculative designs to schedule design efforts allowing for a launch-and-learn approach. You will drive designs to market, work with research to gather insights from customers, and iterate. Being conversant in emerging topics of AI and having a solid point of view on designing for this new reality is essential. You will operate in ambiguity and be expected to simplify work and define tangible paths forward. And you will elevate other designers at PayPal, helping them achieve career goals.

We are personalizing commerce by connecting consumers and merchants through shopping experiences in traditional and emerging AI agent surfaces. We seek self-starting professionals to join our Product Design team. This role will shape new experiences for PayPal, impacting 400+ million consumers and 30+ million merchants worldwide – expanding our role in online shopping, rewards, & payments.

In this role you can make an impact by using your design expertise to collaboratively develop innovative ideas from conception to execution, with a focus on creating user-centric designs that prioritize usability and accessibility.

Your day to day:

In your day-to-day you will:

• Work hand-in-glove with product to drive iterative product development.   
• Set time expectations with leadership and peers.  
• Synthesize complex business requirements into design features. 
• Integrate similar work from other teams into standardized CX patterns. 
• Enforce / enhance design methodology and processes.    
• Build trusted relationships with stakeholders to better influence design direction. 
• Mentor product designers to build their career. 
• Advocate for the customers in all work.  
• Bridge technology, business and design strategy. 
• Go deep in tech backend to find opportunities to innovate the customer experience. 

What do you need to bring:

• 8-10 years of leadership experience driving global product design strategies. 
• Advanced skills in UX design methods, journey mapping, and visualization tools. Conversant in visual design skills -- layout, typography, color. 
• Conversant in AI topics and a point of view on designing for this new reality. 
• Ability to establish a design vision and identify near term work towards it. 
• Storytelling skills to drive your point of view and surface debates. 
• Ability to prioritize work while shepherding multiple projects to launch.  
• Commitment to beautiful, user-centered designs with a11y built in.  
• A drive for perfection, and willingness to incrementally build a way there.  
• Ability to right-size design artifacts to maintain design velocity.

The US national annual pay range for this role is $188,000 to $323,950

For the majority of employees, PayPal's balanced hybrid work model offers 3 days in the office for effective in-person collaboration and 2 days at your choice of either the PayPal office or your home workspace, ensuring that you equally have the benefits and conveniences of both locations.
