Job Description

The Product Owner manages the backlog for assigned value streams, contributes to the product roadmap, and understands customer and market needs for the PremierOne product. This role defines user stories and acceptance criteria, engages with Engineering teams, and grooms the backlog. The position champions user and stakeholder needs throughout development, ensuring delivered features meet project goals and objectives. Success requires managing multiple projects simultaneously from idea to completion.
Must have:
  • Develop strong relationships with UI/UX teams and collaborate with research and design.
  • Actively involved in initiative and epic refinement as a Product Management team member.
  • Responsible for building, editing, and maintaining the team backlog, including user stories.
  • Review and prioritize the backlog for release and sprint planning, coordinating dependencies.
  • Contribute to the product roadmap and participate in release planning.
  • Collaborate with the team to detail user stories with acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain proper flow of features, user stories, and acceptance criteria in the backlog.
  • Agree on accepted story completion, validating against acceptance criteria and DoD.
  • Understand research spikes scope and assist Engineering with critical tech infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the team and stakeholders in team demos.
  • Lead and participate in appropriate agile ceremonies.
Good to have:
  • Experience utilizing product and project management tools such as Aha!, Jira, and DevOps
  • Experience within the Public Safety industry

The Command Center Software team is building public safety solutions that bring the capabilities of the suite together into a single, user-centered workflow and help public safety manage data across their operation.

Job Description

The product owner is responsible for the ownership and managing of the backlog for their assigned value stream(s), contributes to the product roadmap, and understands customer and market needs for the PremierOne product. The product owner works in partnership with the product manager and relies on their technical knowledge and background to define user stories and acceptance criteria, engage with assigned Engineering teams, and groom the backlog. The ability to deeply understand technical architecture, define engineering behind features, and translate high-level customer functional requirements into technical for development is a crucial skill. In addition, the ability to describe the impact of technical requirements on customers, non-technical sales, and support resources is a must.

This position will be responsible for filling the agile product owner role for the PremierOne product. In this role, the product owner champions the needs of the user, customer, and other stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure that what is delivered meets the goals, objectives, and desired outcomes of the project. To be successful, one must manage multiple projects simultaneously, at various stages of their development, from idea to completed feature.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with UI/UX teams and work in close partnership with research and design colleagues
  • Actively involved in initiative and epic refinement as an integral member of the Product Management team
  • Responsible for building, editing, and maintaining the team backlog, including user stories, defects, and research spikes
  • Review and prioritize the backlog as part of the preparatory work for release and sprint planning, including coordination of dependencies with other POs
  • Contribute to the roadmap
  • Involved in release planning, reviewing vision, and content presentations to assigned engineering team(s)
  • Collaborate with the team to detail user stories with acceptance criteria
  • Maintain the proper flow of features, user stories, and acceptance criteria in the backlog
  • Agree on accepted story completion, including validating that the story meets acceptance criteria and that it complies with the Definition of Done (DoD)
  • Understand the scope of needed research spikes and collaborate with Engineering to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the critical technological infrastructures
  • Collaborate with the team and any other stakeholders in the team demo
  • Lead and participate in the appropriate agile ceremonies

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in business analysis, product ownership, product planning, product management, or engineering
  • Agile/Scrum experience
  • Technical Knowledge of Enterprise Hardware Platforms.
  • Firm understanding of software design, user interaction, and user interface design
  • Deep technical knowledge in software development methodologies
  • Technical skills and knowledge of on-prem or cloud services and development
  • Align with the enhanced focus on prioritizing and developing important aspects of mission-critical products, such as availability, reliability, and stability
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Polished presentation skills for internal and external audiences
  • Proactive, enthusiastic attitude toward challenging problems
  • Capable of quickly evaluating and prioritizing new projects alongside customer feedback
  • Strong ability to take complex user requirements and distill them into a format that is intuitive and clear to developers as well as non-technical staff
  • Ability to research and analyze project requirements from various stakeholders
  • Build consensus among stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to multi-task among various assignments
  • Understanding of product management and product ownership principles

Desired Skills

  • Experience within the Public Safety industry is a plus
