Pixel United's New Media Games studio seeks a Sr. Technical Artist II to contribute to game development software using Unity, Photoshop, Spine, and Unity scripts. Responsibilities include guiding team development, providing technical guidance, maintaining game quality, identifying areas for improvement, collaborating with cross-functional teams, assisting with documentation and deployment, migrating legacy tech stacks, and resolving technical issues. The role requires expertise in Unity animation engine, Spine animation system, and a strong understanding of art pipelines and processes. Experience with Adobe CC Suite, 3D modeling/animation software, and source control is essential. The candidate will also mentor junior team members and contribute to successful project delivery.
Must have:
  • 4-7 years experience in digital gaming as a technical artist
  • 2+ years in a professional technical art role using Unity animation engine and scripting shaders
  • Familiarity with Spine animation system
  • Experience with Adobe CC Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)
  • Unity, 3D modeling & animation (Maya/Max)
  • Source control software
Good to have:
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile methodologies

Pixel United's New Media Games studio is looking for a Digital Game Technical Artist to join our game development studio. The Digital Game Development Technical Artist will be part of an agile development team, building and working on game development software on top of current and upcoming development stacks. The Digital Development Technical Artist will be expert with knowledge in industry, process, scripts and execute on own tech ideas & regularly help with burden of animation from art/dev while regularly mentoring junior team members.

What You'll Do

  • Guide team development efforts towards successful project delivery.

  • Hands-on in game development using Unity, Photoshop, Spine and Unity scripts and tools.

  • Provide technical guidance to other technical artists on the team.

  • Maintain high standards of game quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.

  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.

  • Collaborate with other technical artists, software developers and business stakeholders to plan, develop, and ship mobile and web-based digital games.

  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements, development of user stories, estimates and work plans.

  • Prepare reports, training plans, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of Digital Game Development.

  • Assist in the packaging and support deployment of releases.

  • Work with teammates in the migration of legacy tech stacks to current technologies.

  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.

  • Assess opportunities for teaching art pipeline and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties.

  • Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on time and on-budget.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree/BFA/MFA or equivalent work 4-7 years’ work experience in digital gaming as technical artist

  • 2 years+ in professional technical art role, utilizing Unity animation engine and Scripting Shaders

  • Familiar with Spine animation system

  • Contribution to the development and success of several commercially released products in a technical capacity within an aligned industry i.e., console game, online, mobile etc.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art or related field preferred.

  • Adaptability and a passion for problem solving.

  • Be always creative and innovative.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Articulate and communicate complex technical art & animation issues.

  • Strong ability to understand and improve proprietary art software.

  • Actively seek feedback and review of work; accept and act upon creative/technical direction.

  • Have experience with - Adobe CC Suite with an emphasis on Unity, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, Maya / Max for 3D modelling, rigging and animating, Source control software (Perforce, Alien-brain, Jira, and confluence, GitHub, SVN, etc.), proprietary tools or software, experience with Scrum, Waterfall or Agile methodologies a plus. (This is a bonus, and not a hard requirement)
