Job Description

The Tech Lead - Database SRE will lead, develop, support, and maintain critical database applications, managing the team, and ensuring compliance. Responsibilities include driving down incidents, promoting engineering principles, advocating for new tools, and ensuring compliance with security policies. The role involves collaboration with various teams, representing the team at meetings, and writing technical documentation. Occasional weekend work is required for testing and releases. The candidate should possess experience in DevOps principles, scripting languages and CI/CD tooling. The ideal candidate will have financial services experience.
Good To Have:
  • Financial services experience.
  • Oracle / MSSQL / Postgres /database querying.
  • Broad Infrastructure knowledge (Networks, Database, Web, SAN/NAS).
  • Use of JIRA / Kanban.
  • SCOM/SCORCH, Control-M, BigPanda, Service Now, DataDog
  • Understanding of Agile software engineering principles.
  • ITIL qualified
Must Have:
  • Experience with engineering/DevOps principles.
  • Knowledge of Git concepts and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Good communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Hands on experience of automation
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Groovy, YAML and/or Python.
  • Use of CI/CD tooling such as GIT/Ansible/Jenkins/Nexus/

As part of the Team, the new resource will support at 360° database layer of several services on different technologies, participate into international projects and have a chance to influence current and future technology choices.

There will be occasional weekend work required as Saturdays are used to test and roll forward software and cloud infra releases.


Key Responsibilities:

Lead, develop, support and maintain critical database applications
Team management; demand management, maintaining a shift and on-call rota, regular one to ones, team meetings, annual appraisals
Gain an in-depth knowledge of the unit’s processes and ensure team compliance with these processes with solid focus on driving down incidents and problems while delivering changes
Advocate and promote Engineering principles, drive quality standards across the database suite
Have familiarity with security and operational responsibilities
Promoting and driving innovation by actively advocating new tools, processes and technical developments to aid CI/CD
Drive automation as much as possible
Proactively identify operational and project risks. Provide short term solutions whilst tracking long term resolution.
Ensure compliance with risk and security policies
Partner with the business and technology team members
Act as operational SME for the product while also gaining a solid understanding of the underlying database infrastructure and operations/observability toolset
Collaborate with the architecture teams to provide insight into operational impacts.
Represent the team at unit meetings such as the CAB, incident review, problem review.
Writing and maintaining support documentation, technical specifications and user guides.


Required Skills:


Essential


Demonstrable experience with engineering / DEVOPS principles
Knowledge of git concepts, CI/CD, release strategy, branching strategy, and development / release pipelines.
Able to calmly navigate and work through and resolve engineering and Service issues
Assist and guide the team on deployment practices, while implementing improvements to enable further automation of deployments.
Good communication skills and the proven track record of working effectively with all organisational levels
Continuously adopt a pragmatic, flexible and adaptable approach.
Hands on experience of automation
Experience with scripting languages; Bash, Groovy, YAML and/or Python
Use of CICD tooling such as GIT/Ansible/Jenkins/Nexus/

ITIL qualified
