Job Summary
Grinding Gear Games is seeking 3D Artists to join their team in Auckland, New Zealand, to work on armour sets, weapons, and microtransactions for their award-winning Action RPG, Path of Exile. The role involves collaborating with concept artists, coordinating with outsourcing artists, and maintaining high artistic quality and consistency. Candidates should have 3+ years of experience in real-time graphics and 3D pipeline, with strong proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Photoshop, and Substance Painter.
Must Have
- Work side-by-side with artists in microtransaction pipeline
- Create highest quality artwork and maintain artistic consistency
- Collaborate with concept artists to review design and give feedback
- Coordinate and provide thorough and consistent feedback with outsourcing artists
- 3+ years of professional experience in real-time graphics and 3D pipeline
- Experience with modelling items/props, weapons, armours and characters
- Strong proficiency with Maya, Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Photoshop, and Substance Painter
- Experience working with external outsourcing artists
- Solid understanding of kit-bashing models, topology, materials, textures, and optimization
- Great communication, organisation and management skills
- Ability to identify any risks and issues in the outsourcing pipeline and proactively seek solutions
- Strong artistic vision to translate a concept art to game-ready asset
- Ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to embrace and provide constructive artistic feedback
- Portfolio and/or reel demonstrating relevant artistic skills required
- Willingness to complete an art test if requested

- An avid gamer with a deep understanding of Path of Exile
- Experience working in the game industry

Job Description
We are Grinding Gear Games, creators of the award-winning dark fantasy Action RPG Path of Exile. We're a world-class studio of more than 200 developers based in Auckland, New Zealand and we're currently expanding the Path of Exile development team.
We’re seeking 3D Artists to work on armour sets, weapons and other microtransactions for Path of Exile!
Location: On-site in Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand
*Relocation assistance (for the right candidate if needed)
Full-time position - 40 hours a week
The position includes the following duties:
- Work side-by-side with artists in our microtransaction pipeline, under the direction of the Directors to create the highest quality artwork and maintain artistic consistency and expectations set by the studio
- Collaborate with concept artists to review design, give feedback and achieve goals
- Coordinate and provide thorough and consistent feedback with our outsourcing artists
We are seeking someone with:
- 3+ years of professional experience in real-time graphics and 3D pipeline
- Experience with modelling items/props, weapons, armours and characters
- Strong proficiency with Maya, Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Photoshop, and Substance Painter. 3D Studio Max is a plus
- Experience working with external outsourcing artists.
- Solid understanding of kit-bashing models, topology, materials, textures , and optimization
