Job Description

The Tax Analyst in Pune will focus on U.S. Indirect Tax compliance, including State & Local Sales/Use Taxes, Gross Receipts Taxes, and Personal Property Taxes. Key responsibilities involve implementing standardized processes, identifying automation opportunities, preparing tax-related entries in PeopleSoft, maintaining documentation like exemption certificates, and supporting state audits. The role requires 2-3 years of experience in U.S. indirect tax compliance and a strong understanding of U.S. Indirect tax regimes and compliance requirements.
Good To Have:
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft (Oracle).
  • Experience with account reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
  • Experience with Vertex O Series or similar sales/use tax software.
  • Experience with Alteryx or similar tools used for data analytics.
  • Proficiency in Tax technology platforms and data automation tools.
Must Have:
  • Implement and maintain standardized processes and templates for consistency and efficiency.
  • Analyze recurring manual tasks to uncover automation opportunities.
  • Assist with U.S. Indirect Tax compliance, including State & Local Sales/Use Taxes, Gross Receipts Taxes, and Personal Property Taxes.
  • Assist with preparation and posting of monthly/quarterly tax-related entries in PeopleSoft.
  • Run and interpret reports from various financial systems including PeopleSoft and Vertex O Series.
  • Maintain documentation including customer exemption certificates and tax licenses.
  • Maintain reconciliation support of GL balances in Blackline tool.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, various indirect tax payment processing, and assist with state audit support.
  • Research tax laws and provide guidance on compliance and planning.
  • Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on business operations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with tax officers, internal stakeholders, and external service providers/consultants.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of key tax processes (SOPs), including compliance systems and suggesting automation opportunities.
  • Hold a Chartered Accountant / MBA (Finance) / CPA / LLB qualification with exposure to International Tax, Transfer Pricing, or M&A.
  • Possess 2-3 years of U.S. indirect tax compliance experience in a Big 4 firm or multinational corporation.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of U.S. Indirect tax regimes and compliance requirements for indirect taxes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain standardized processes and templates to ensure consistency and efficiency across operations. Continuously assess workflows to identify and execute process improvements.
  • Analyze recurring manual tasks to uncover automation opportunities, aiming to reduce effort, minimize errors, and enhance overall accuracy. Anticipate issues, take initiative, and act in advance rather than reacting to problems after they arise.
  • Define specific, measurable objectives and assign ownership to ensure accountability and alignment.
  • Assist with U.S. Indirect Tax compliance, including State & Local Sales/Use Taxes, Gross Receipts Taxes, Personal Property Taxes, and other transaction-based taxes.
  • Assist with preparation and posting of monthly/quarterly tax-related entries in PeopleSoft.
  • Run and interpret reports from various financial systems including PeopleSoft, Vertex O Series, etc.
  • Maintain documentation including customer exemption certificates and tax licenses.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant / MBA (Finance) / CPA/ LLB with exposure to International Tax, Transfer Pricing, or M&A.
  • 2-3 years of U.S. indirect tax compliance in a Big 4 firm or multinational corporation.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. Indirect tax regimes and compliance requirements for indirect taxes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft (Oracle) is an added advantage.
  • Experience with account reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
  • Experience with Vertex O Series or similar sales/use tax software.
  • Experience with Alteryx or similar tools used for data analytics.
  • Proficiency in Tax technology platforms and data automation tools.
  • Effective prioritization skills with ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply innovative approaches to problem solve.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts in simple terms.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
