The Senior Systems Designer will be responsible for the player class and ability systems, as well as progression. This role involves collaborating with other departments to design and implement content, ensuring smooth processes. They will act as the main point of contact for the areas they own, working on Titan Quest II, an ambitious ARPG set in ancient Greece. Responsibilities include owning class and ability systems, working on large tasks, assisting in task management, taking creative leadership, mentoring junior designers, presenting work, collaborating with the team, designing gameplay systems, implementing content, and ensuring quality documentation.
Must have:
  • Experience as a Game, Level or Narrative Designer.
  • At least two shipped titles in mentioned roles.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the ARPG genre.
  • Comfortable with owning a game area.
  • Understanding of game balancing and math.
  • Good documentation skills.
  • Good written and spoken English skills.
  • Passionate about ARPGs and RPGs.
Good to have:
  • Experience working on ARPG games.
  • Experience with game engines.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • German skills.

Job Details

We are looking for a seasoned, passionate and creative Senior Systems Designer.
Systems Designers at Grimlore Games look after most aspects of core gameplay.
Given the Senior level, you will be the owner of our class and ability systems, as well as related progression.

This work will involve close collaboration with other departments to design and implement content in these areas, ensuring that smooth processes are followed, and all stakeholders are in the know. You will be acting as the main point of contact for the areas you own. 

You will be working on Titan Quest II, an ambitious ARPG set in ancient Greece that aims to innovate on the traditional ARPG formula. 

Remote work is possible. 

 

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Fully own and drive forward our player class and ability systems. 
  • Work on larger tasks/features on your own. 
  • Assist your lead with task management and prioritization in your area. 
  • Take creative leadership in a strike team and track/chase required work. 
  • Mentor Junior Designers. 
  • Present your work to our studio, and occasionally externally in an engaging way. 
  • Collaborate with and guide Designers, Producers, Artists, Programmers and the Audio team to realize the vision of the game. 
  • Design engaging gameplay systems for our players to enjoy. This includes combat, abilities, enemies, as well as progression systems. 
  • Implement content in the game using Unreal Engine and Scripting languages. 
  • Ensure high quality documentation on Confluence and Miro across your areas. 
  • Be a positive force within the team, acting as a role model for Juniors to look up to. 

Required QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience as a Game-, Level-, or Narrative Designer in a professional environment. 
  • At least two shipped titles where you worked in one of the mentioned roles. Senior level experience is a plus. 
  • Familiar with and knowledgeable about the ARPG genre (Diablo, Path of Exile, Titan Quest, etc). 
  • Comfortable with the responsibility of owning a large and important area of a game. 
  • A solid understanding of game balancing and related mathematics. 
  • Good documentation skills. 
  • Good written and spoken English skills. 
  • Passionate about ARPGs and RPGs in general. You should be an experienced player in those genres. 
  • Comfortable with giving and receiving criticism, as well as working in an iterative approach. 

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience working on ARPG games. 
  • Experience in working with game engines. Experience with Unreal Engine is a big plus. 
  • Experience with using scripting languages to implement game content like abilities or AI behaviors, for example LUA or AngelScript. 
  • German skills are a plus.
