Job Summary

Netflix Animation Studios is seeking an entry-level Technical Assistant for the Asset Assembly team in Vancouver. This role supports modelling, surfacing, and rigging departments by managing assets, triaging errors via JIRA, assisting with character/environment review renders, and investigating/fixing issues. The assistant will also support production in delivering assets to shot departments and maintain documentation, fostering partnerships across teams to ensure efficient workflows and successful project delivery.

Must Have

  • An interest in animated/VFX features, TV commercials or animated series as a Technical Assistant
  • Completion of multiple high-quality projects at university, or the equivalent
  • An interest in supporting modelling, surfacing and or rigging artists
  • Excellent in proactive problem-solving and finding solutions within the given parameters
  • Adaptable in approach, with the ability to balance your workload, the needs of the supes and leads, and production deadlines
  • The ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work across multiple areas, remaining calm under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in both a technical and artistic manner
  • Willing to learn and contribute to the success of the team and projects

Job Summary:

Are you looking to get into the animation industry? Have you always wanted to learn how animated films are made? We are looking to add an entry-level technical assistant to our Asset Assembly team. The successful candidate will get a chance to learn the flow and assembly of animation assets from the modelling, rigging and surfacing team, while working closely with the applicable department supervisors and leads.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support the modelling, surfacing, and rigging departments in managing their assets.
  • Triage asset-related errors using JIRA tickets and follow up with those the error affects. This usually involves review renders not looking as expected.
  • Assist the department with character and environment review render.
  • Perform an initial investigation of errors to the best of your ability and either fix them or direct the error to the corresponding department.
  • Support the production team in delivering assets to shot departments such as animation layout and lighting.
  • Promote workflows that will help you perform your job more efficiently.
  • Update and maintain documentation related to the Asset Assembly department.
  • Establish close partnerships with a wide variety of departments, their supervisors, leads and artists.

What You’ll Need:

  • An interest in animated/VFX features, TV commercials or animated series as a Technical Assistant
  • Alternatively, completion of multiple high-quality projects at university, or the equivalent.
  • An interest in supporting modelling, surfacing and or rigging artists
  • Programming experience in Python is a huge bonus.
  • Excellent in proactive problem-solving and finding solutions within the given parameters
  • Adaptable in approach, with the ability to balance your workload, the needs of the supes and leads, and production deadlines.
  • The ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work across multiple areas, remaining calm under pressure

This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).

At NAS, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The overall market range for this role is typically $60k - 73k CAD. This reflects total compensation; we do not have stock options.
