Construction Manager in Charlottesville

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Manager/Engineer to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities in the greater Charlottesville, VA area. Responsibilities include reviewing contract documents, processing RFIs and shop drawings, coordinating communication, managing field inspections, reviewing schedules and pay estimates, managing change orders, using cloud-based software, client interfacing, preparing construction schedules, and participating in business development. The role requires a bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant construction experience.

Must Have

• Review and interpret Contract Documents (specifications and drawings)
• Assist in processing and reviewing RFIs and shop drawings
• Coordinate communication between Contractor, Design Engineer, Facility Managers, and Owner
• Manage field inspection of Contractor's daily operations for compliance
• Perform Q/C on CM operations
• Review Contractor’s schedules, monthly pay estimates, and manage change orders
• Use cloud-based software for project documentation (PROCORE, Unifier e-Builder)
• Interface with clients and perform client management activities
• Prepare construction schedules using Microsoft Project and P6
• Participate in business development activities
• Assist engineering design teams with constructability and VE reviews
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field
• 7+ years relevant construction experience in water/wastewater industry
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Manager/ Engineer (CM/RE) to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and conveyance facilities located in the greater Charlottesville, VA area and Central Virginia. Travel within the state of Virginia may be required.

Duties and responsibilities may include the following:

• Reviewing and interpreting Contract Documents including project specifications and drawings.
• Assisting in the processing and review of RFIs and shop drawings prepared by the Contractor.
• Preparing sketches and assembling data for the Design Engineer's use.
• Coordinating and facilitating communication between the Contractor, the Design Engineer, the Facility Managers, and the Owner
• Managing the field inspection of Contractor's daily operations for compliance with contract documents.
• Perform Q/C on CM operations.
• Reviewing Contractor’s schedules, monthly pay estimates and managing the review of change orders.
• Use of cloud-based software for project documentation such as PROCORE, Unifier e-Builder etc.
• Interfacing with clients and performing client management activities.
• Prepare construction schedules using appropriate software (Microsoft Project and P6).
• Participate in business development activities, such as proposal development, interviews, and client marketing.
• Assist Hazen engineering design teams to provide constructability reviews and VE reviews.
• Other Construction and Project management activities as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Must have bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or related field
• 7+ years relevant construction experience in heavy construction, mechanical and electrical construction, preferably in the water/wastewater industry
• Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) are required and the ability to learn construction specific software use (i.e., PROCORE, Bluebeam)
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM), OSHA 10 certification and/or other industry certs a plus
