Job Description

The Data Engineer for the Financial Operations Group at Life.Church is responsible for developing engineering solutions to enable data-driven decision-making in finance and staff operations. This role involves transforming raw financial and operational data from multiple sources into reliable, accessible formats for analysis and reporting, collaborating with FP&A analysts and stakeholders to support strategic planning, budgeting, and operational efficiency. The engineer will design ETL pipelines, optimize data integration, develop automated processing solutions, ensure data quality, and build predictive models for financial initiatives.

Must Have:
  • Design and implement ETL pipelines and data processing workflows for financial reporting.
  • Optimize data integration between financial systems and analytical tools.
  • Develop automated data processing solutions for financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across financial and staff operations data sources.
  • Implement and leverage organizational data governance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with organization-level database teams to define data requirements and maintain ETL pipelines.
  • Build predictive models and flexible forecasting tools for budgeting and planning.
  • Develop custom analytics solutions for expense analysis and operational efficiency.
  • Create automated reporting solutions for financial closes and dashboards.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Cloud computing skills (Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience.

The Data Engineer for the Financial Operations Group is primarily responsible expediting engineering solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across Life.Church's finance and staff operations functions. This role transforms raw financial and operational data from multiple sources into reliable, accessible formats for analysis and reporting. The Data Engineer collaborates closely with FP&A analysts, finance teams, and staff operations stakeholders to deliver targeted data solutions that support strategic planning, budgeting, and operational efficiency initiatives. The Data Engineer utilizes their skills to deliver technical outcomes that align with the direction of their team to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ. What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement ETL pipelines and data processing workflows specifically for financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and staff operations data.
  • Optimize data integration between financial systems (accounting, payroll, giving tools, CRM) and analytical tools to ensure seamless data flow.
  • Develop automated data processing solutions that expedite routine financial reporting, financial reconciliations, variance analysis, and operational metrics.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across financial and staff operations data sources through validation rules, alerts, data cleansing, and standardization processes.
  • Implement and leverage organizational data governance initiatives to serve analysts and end users.
  • Collaborate with organization-level database teams to define data requirements, ensure optimal performance for financial and operational reporting needs, maintain ETL pipelines and ensure data quality.
  • Build predictive models and flexible forecasting tools for budgeting, revenue projections, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Develop custom analytics solutions for expense analysis, giving trends, staff cost modeling, and operational efficiency metrics.
  • Create automated reporting solutions that expedite monthly financial closes, budget variance reporting, and executive dashboards.
  • Participate in the design and analysis of A/B tests for new programs and strategies.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis by rapidly engineering data solutions for special projects, strategic initiatives, and executive requests.

  • Strong programming skills, particularly in languages such as Python and SQL
  • Cloud computing skills (Google Cloud)
  • Familiarity with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Google Data Studio
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Associate or professional google cloud certification preferred
