Job Summary
Nine, Australia's largest media company, is seeking a Technology Director for its Consumer Platform. This role involves leading the vision, strategy, and execution of a multi-year, multi-million dollar program to unify Streaming and Publishing technologies. The director will manage a 50-75+ person engineering team, oversee a $26M budget, and drive innovation to support future revenue growth, acting as a key technical partner to senior executives.
Must Have
- Define long-term technical vision and strategy (Identity, Subscriptions, Billing, Martech)
- Lead technical discovery, definition, and vendor selection (RFP)
- Champion deprecation of legacy systems
- Drive innovation through AI and strategic resourcing
- Lead Consumer Platform engineering organization (~50-75+ people)
- Own roadmap execution, ensuring scheduled value delivery
- Manage complex resource plan (onshore, offshore, new hires)
- Oversee $26M budget for efficient allocation and de-risked delivery
- Act as key technology partner to Product Director and senior executives
- Present strategy, progress, and budget updates to C-level, ELT, and Board
- Lead and manage key technology vendor and implementation partner relationships
- 15+ years in technology leadership, delivering large-scale digital transformation
- Experience managing large, multi-disciplinary engineering organizations (50-100+)
- Deep strategic acumen, translating business goals to technical strategy
- Extensive experience with vendor evaluation, selection (RFP), and management
- Strong financial and budget management skills (multi-million dollar programs)
- Exceptional executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence and align individuals from engineering to boardroom

Job Description
The Technology Director is the single-threaded technical owner responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of Nine's most critical transformation: the integrated Consumer Platform. This multi-year, multi-million dollar program unifies disparate Streaming and Publishing technologies into a single foundation for audience identity, engagement, and commerce. You will de-risk a high-stakes delivery program, lead a 50-75+ person multi-disciplinary engineering organization, and be accountable for the platform underpinning future revenue growth, including a forecast 10% uplift in N28 revenue.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategic & Technical Leadership
- Define the long-term technical vision and strategy (Identity, Subscriptions, Billing, Martech) with the Product Director.
- Lead the technical discovery, definition, and vendor selection (RFP) for the core platform stacks.
- Champion the graceful deprecation of legacy systems.
- Drive innovation through AI and strategic resourcing.
Delivery & Program Execution
- Lead the entire Consumer Platform engineering organization (~50-75+), including Accounts, Commerce, and Growth domains.
- Own the execution of the roadmap, ensuring scheduled value delivery (targeting the LA Olympics milestone).
- Manage a complex resource plan (onshore, offshore, new hires).
- Oversee the $26M budget for efficient allocation and de-risked delivery.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Act as the key technology partner to the Product Director and senior executives.
- Present strategy, progress, and budget updates to C-level, ELT, and the Board.
- Lead and manage key technology vendor and implementation partner relationships, holding them accountable.
Qualifications
What You Bring:
- 15+ years of experience in technology leadership, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale, complex digital transformation programs in a consumer-facing, high-traffic environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing large, multi-disciplinary engineering organizations (50-100+), including the management of offshore and vendor teams.
- Deep strategic acumen with the ability to translate business goals into a coherent technical strategy and executable roadmap.
- Extensive experience with vendor evaluation, selection (RFP), and management for business-critical systems (e.g., CIAM, Subscription Billing, Payment Gateways).
- Strong financial and budget management skills, with experience overseeing multi-million dollar programs of work.
- Exceptional executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align individuals from the engineering-level to the boardroom.
- Experience in media, streaming (SVOD/BVOD), or publishing industries is highly desirable.
