Job Description

Motorola Solutions is seeking a dynamic and highly technical lead for our System Engineering team. This role is a critical "player-coach" role for a leader who is passionate about both deep technical architecture and building a world-class team.

This highly effective team has built a strong foundation delivering our core NVR and AI Appliances. The team is built to operate at scale and is now expanding its charter to apply its expertise as the core hardware platform owner for multiple business units within Motorola Solutions.

The ideal candidate is an architect at heart who excels at identifying system bottlenecks, optimizing performance, and making critical hardware selections, and who is a dedicated people leader with the organizational design acumen to define new team structures and bring the team to the next level. You will be responsible for the team's technical vision, its day-to-day execution, and its strategic expansion to support a global product portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Personally engage in and lead the team's efforts in NPI, benchmarking, workload characterization (especially for AI and video throughput), and complex bottleneck analysis.
  • Help guide the team in developing and expanding automated scalability and performance test environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement in our hardware selection and system design processes to deliver world-class performance and reliability.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers and senior leadership across multiple business units on strategic direction, technical roadmaps, project deliverables, and milestones.
  • Manage and own the technical and business relationships with key Tier 1 OEM/ODM hardware partners.
  • Drive the end-to-end product delivery lifecycle with external partners, from partner selection and design engagement through to mass production, ensuring project scope, budget, and schedules are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of systems engineers.
  • Manage resource requirements and scale the team to meet the new, expanding global scope.
  • Foster a healthy, innovative, and collaborative culture that embodies Motorola’s values.

Basic Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years in Hardware design and 2+ years in Software design.
  • Proven ability to solve complex technical problems, identify system bottlenecks, and recommend design optimizations in both hardware and software.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with x86 server architecture, storage (RAID, NVMe), networking, and embedded systems.
  • Experience leading or managing phases of the NPI lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, testing, and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record bringing volume hardware/software products to market (Linux- and Windows-based).
  • Deep experience with Windows and Linux performance testing tools (e.g., diskspd, iometer, xperf, perfmon, iostat, perf).
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automating performance test benches.
  • Experience with Video Management Software (VMS), video streaming, or the security industry.
  • Experience working with global hardware partners (OEM/ODM).
  • Experience with design-for-manufacturability (DFMA) principles.
  • Able to think strategically beyond your team's domain to do what is right for the greater Motorola Solutions product ecosystem.
  • Strong critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills with a "can-do" attitude
