Job Description
Use your wide-ranging concept skills to help set visual direction and inspiration for cozy adventure game worlds
Core Skills & Abilities
- Have a commanding sense of color, shape, and composition
- Understand what makes designs iconic and stand out from the crowd
- Be passionate about world building and understanding where and how design communicates purpose and culture
- Craft visually distinct and stunningly beautiful environments that contain both natural and man-made elements, all with an air of the fantastic
- Help create visual targets and guidelines - you’re communicating vision as much as generating assets
- Help create cultural targets and guidelines - it isn’t just about how a place looks, but the lives and ecosystems and nuance that makes it what it is
- Proactively iterate and explore ideas while embracing feedback
- In addition to your own style, you should have flexibility to generate a few pieces in a given style
- Have a wide visual library to pull from across time periods, geographies, and civilizations
Required Experience
- Portfolio demonstrating strong skill in visual design and development
- At least one shipped product (comic, book, game, etc)
- Experience (and comfort!) rapidly iterating on visual designs, throwing a lot away
- Experience making shippable, final work
- Experience working on a cross-disciplinary team (at least one project/reference)
Hours & Expectations
This is a three month contract, Mid January - Mid April, with opportunities for extension depending on project status and work compatibility. You’ll be meeting daily with the high level creative team on the game, presenting work, critiquing, and integrating feedback. You must be available to meet between 9am and 10am Mountain (US) time most work days. Outside of that, you can set your own hours, but we expect 30-40 hours a week most weeks. You’re welcome to take time off / vacation, always, just let us know in advance!
This will be a combination of quick and rapid iteration – silhouettes, palette mockups, sketches, with an emphasis on exploration and discovery – and polished deliverables worthy of decks and directional keyart.
Help Enrich Our World
