You will be joining Mercer’s Investment Engineering team, where we design, build, and maintain innovative applications that empower our investment teams to deliver exceptional results. Our work is highly collaborative—we partner closely with teams such as Data Pipelines, DevOps, and Infrastructure to create solutions that drive real value for Mercer and our clients. Must have:
  • Work on our internal portfolio management system and other tools supporting the investment team, using a mix of frontend (React) and backend (primarily Python, Node.JS) skills.
  • Learn, design, and build REST or GraphQL services to support an API-driven culture.
  • Develop data pipelines with a focus on ETL and ELT.
  • Integrate existing applications with new data sources and design data models using Hive data lake, MongoDB, or SQL Server as needed.
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including deployment to production.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in user experience and user interface design.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand business processes and needs, and formulate pragmatic solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the business to prioritize and contextualize assignments.
  • Provide pragmatic software solutions, contribute to the Mercer technology stack, review code and architecture, and assist the team lead in delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Ensure software reliability through testing, mentor junior team members, and promote a culture of learning.
Good to have:
  • 2+ years of exposure to ETL pipelines (Airflow, Spark, dbt).
  • Commercial experience in finance and investment management is a plus.
  • Experience as a software engineer collaborating with other engineers and business analysts.
  • Pragmatic approach to business solutions, with flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-driven and motivated work ethic.
  • Enthusiasm for keeping up to date with industry trends and technologies, and bringing new ideas to the team.

We will count on you to:

Software engineering at Mercer is about more than just writing code. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Full Stack Development: Work on our internal portfolio management system and other tools supporting the investment team, using a mix of frontend (React) and backend (primarily Python, Node.JS) skills.
  • API & Data Services: Learn, design, and build REST or GraphQL services to support an API-driven culture. Develop data pipelines with a focus on ETL and ELT.
  • Integration & Data Modeling: Integrate existing applications with new data sources and design data models using Hive data lake, MongoDB, or SQL Server as needed.
  • End-to-End SDLC: Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including deployment to production.
  • UI & UX: Demonstrate a keen interest in user experience and user interface design.
  • Business Analysis: Engage with stakeholders to understand business processes and needs, and formulate pragmatic solutions. Collaborate closely with the business to prioritize and contextualize assignments.
  • Technology Solutions: Provide pragmatic software solutions, contribute to the Mercer technology stack, review code and architecture, and assist the team lead in delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Quality & Mentorship: Ensure software reliability through testing, mentor junior team members, and promote a culture of learning.

What you need to have:

  • 2+ years of application and service development in Python, Node.js, REST/GraphQL, Java, or C#.
  • Experience with Git, including code review via pull requests.
  • 2+ years of SQL Server or NoSQL development.
  • Clean code, test-driven development, and other best coding practices.
  • 1+ years of experience with React.js and Redux preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Docker container management.
