Job Summary
PayPal is seeking a highly skilled GL Accounting Manager to lead global general ledger operations, including prepaid and accruals management. This role involves collaborating with Accounting Operations and outsourced service providers to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and process excellence. The manager will drive continuous improvement, identify and mitigate finance-related risks, and manage daily accounting operations, period-end close activities, and account reconciliations. This position requires expertise in U.S. GAAP and SOX controls, and the ability to partner with various finance teams.
Must Have
- Lead several process workstreams through explorations, gap analysis, integration planning, execution, and problem solving
- Identify finance-related risks and partner with cross-functional teams to mitigate the identified risks
- Discuss finance/accounting concepts with others across the organization
- Lead and drive execution of plans and influence where you do not have direct authority through strong interpersonal skills
- Proactively engage, evaluate, and drive resolution of potential conflicts between various Finance and non-Finance functions
- Manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Work collaboratively with workstream leads and subject matter experts to arrive at risk-based approaches related to tactical execution steps
- Manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, prepaid expenses and accruals accounting
- Oversee period-end close activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting close
- Manage and review account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with internal accounting policies and financial reporting standards
- Maintain and continuously improve accounting processes for prepaid and accruals, including automation, efficiency, and governance enhancements
- Ensure proper accounting and reporting under U.S. GAAP, including application of internal policies and SOX controls
- Partner with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and other finance teams to explain variances and support business decision-making
- Serve as a subject matter expert on foreign currency accounting and reporting (FX Reval and CTA)
- Lead or support special projects or system implementation initiatives to enhance financial processes and reporting
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing documentation and insights as needed

Expected Qualifications:
- 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You’ll Bring
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of GL/Corporate accounting functions.
- Chartered Accountant (CA) with Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Business or Finance.
- A combination of Public Accounting experience (Big 4 preferred) and industry experience with global, publicly traded companies (technology sector experience a plus).
- Expertise in SAP ERP and experience with accounting system implementations, enhancements, and optimizations to support GL operations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements, optimize workflows, and enhance automation in GL and corporate accounting operations.
- Experience leveraging automation and AI tools to optimize accounting processes.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and SOX compliance.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage large data sets with speed and accuracy.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills across regions and time zones.
